Overview:
- The southwestern coastal region of Bangladesh is one of the most vulnerable regions where unjust ecosystem management along with climate change pose immense threats to the biodiversity and livelihoods. Besides, imposed restrictions are progressively exacerbating the vulnerabilities of marginalized coastal grower communities by limiting their livelihood options. Communities, being no or least emitters bear the double-edged impacts posed by climate change-induced disasters and non-inclusive natural resource governance that deprives them of harnessing ecosystem services critical for their sustenance.
- Considering this, the project vision is to increase climate change adaptation through improved ecosystem health and services with established stewardship and rights of marginalized communities to the ecosystem services in Nijhum Dwip, Hatia Upazila. To achieve the vision, the project has taken
- research studies along with the advocacy, influencing, and outreach activities where the overall ecosystem service estimation and community stewardship will be uncovered.
- The key objective of the fellowship is to explore the true scenario of community rights over ecosystem services, conflict and power dynamics that exist within communities and the impact of governance and climate change.
About the Fellowship:
- Although climate justice issues are widely discussed in the Bangladeshi media still there are some areas where journalism has space to be critical, particularly in the inequality and justice part of the climate action. The fellow will work to shed light on how some imposed restrictions are affecting the community.
- The fellowship will be awarded to Three (3) journalist from (National Newspapers/National Television Channels/ Online News Portals) aiming to get more visibility in terms of the wide range of audiences including policymakers, environmentalists, and other relevant stakeholders.
