Responsibilities & Context

  • Provide high-quality STI, HTC, and GH services to Sex Workers and Hijra Community at service centers and sub-service centers.
  • Conduct thorough physical examinations of beneficiaries, strictly adhering to proper Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) procedures, and ensuring utmost privacy.
  • Accurately document both present and past medical complaints of beneficiaries on health cards, and prescribe medicines according to treatment protocols.
  • Ensure proper dispensing of drugs, including Directly Observed Therapy (DOTs), while maintaining accurate records.
  • Issue prescriptions for STIs to both female and male partners, following the guidelines set by the BMDC protocol.
  • Ensure availability and functionality of essential clinical setup, such as patient beds, spotlights, privacy screens, adequate lighting, and running water supply.
  • Additionally, maintain and utilize infection prevention equipment, including autoclaves and incinerators, as well as clinical equipment like blood pressure machines, thermometers, and weight scales.
  • Ensure that the medicine store is well-stocked with appropriate medications stored in optimal conditions.
  • Regularly update the medicine stock register, review stock levels, and promptly notify relevant authorities of any stock-outs or impending expiry dates.
  • Prepare medicine requisitions as necessary.
  • Uphold ethical principles, including confidentiality, non-discrimination towards gender diverse populations and hijra communities, and treating beneficiaries with utmost respect and dignity.
  • Safely store blister packs of DOTs medication (e.g., Cefixime and Azithromycin) at service centers until verified by PR or SR representatives. Keep records of blister incineration after verification.
  • Thoroughly implement monitoring tools for clinical activities related to STI, GH, TB, and HTC services. Regularly review clinic performance, provide guidance to staff, and report to the Program Specialist/Coordinator.
  • Provide counseling assistance on personal risk assessments, safer sex behaviors, and partner notification.
  • Conduct the 4Cs approach (compliance with treatment, counseling for prevention, condom demonstration, contact tracing) during counseling sessions, in line with national and project guidelines.
  • Demonstrate proper condom usage.
  • Conduct TB screening for all clinic attendees.
  • Ensure prompt referral of suspected TB cases to DOTS centers for diagnosis and/or treatment, and ensure follow-up of TB-positive cases to ensure treatment adherence.
  • Perform HTC activities as per schedule, including pre and post-test counseling, sample collection from HTC clients, rapid HIV testing according to the designated algorithm, delivery of test results to clients, and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Accompany HIV-positive clients to the care, support, and treatment center (CSTC).
  • Prepare requisition lists for HTC reagents and consumables, and maintain an updated stock register for HTC materials.
  • Properly store and document Quality Control (QC) samples to be sent to the BSMMU laboratory.
  • Maintain the cold chain for reagents and samples to ensure proper organization and preservation.
  • Accurately register clinic patients on each clinic day and maintain all relevant records and files. Submit monthly reports to the Service Center Manager/Sub-Service Center Manager. Prepare and submit monthly HTC reports to the SR focal person in a timely manner.
  • Assist with conducting regular awareness sessions among frontline workers and key stakeholders.
  • Undertake any other assignments related to the project and organizational interests as assigned by higher authorities.
  • Dedicate to ensuring the safety and well-being of all team members, promoting and implementing safeguarding standards, and actively encouraging the reporting of any incidents in line with established procedures of SHEA.
