  • Essential-Higher secondary school certificate bachelor degree is desirable
  • Experience as a medical interpreter in a healthcare setting is desirable
  • Experience as a medical interpreter in a healthcare setting is desirable
  • Fluency in English and Chittagonian Dialects is essential.
  • Proven Proficiency in medical terminology in both Bangla and English Language.
  • Proficiency Certificates in the English language will be an added benefit.
  • Certified medical interpreter (CMI) or health care interpreter (CHI) is Desirable.

Responsibilities & Context

  • Inform medical staff about important cultural nuances to consider during a meeting, medical consultation, or interview with local people.
  • Participate in staff trainings and meetings as an interpreter.
  • Provide face to face interpreting, as well as during telephone and radio calls or other telecom devices, when necessary.
  • Adapt communication to any circumstances, using appropriate language registry as well as diplomatic and courtesy manners.
  • Translate MSF internal / external documents into local language(s).
  • Ensure translations are culturally appropriate and easy to understand.
  • Keep record of all translated documents.
  • Look after all equipment provided, i.e. dictionaries or other books that belong to MSF
  • Ensure confidentiality and medical secrecy.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by working in emergency setups to handle outbreak situations, communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other conditions typical in a clin-ical environment.
  • Adapt to stress caused by unknown circumstances resulting from an outbreak.
  • Be willing to work extra hours and days when requested by the manager, beyond regular working hours.
  • Be flexible in working in different areas of the facility and ensure proper patient care as require
  • Collaborate effectively with the medical team to manage a high volume of patients.
  • Serve as a cultural liaison to facilitate mutual understanding between patients and healthcare providers.
  • Speak both the local dialect and the dialect used by the Rohingya.
  • Provide accurate and clear interpretation services during medical consultations, procedures, and treatments.
  • Document any issues or concerns that arise during interpretation.
  • Ensure messages are conveyed accurately in terms of content, context, and style.
  • Interpret for patients and healthcare providers in various settings, including Emergency, Inpatient, Out-patient, Isolation, Maternity, and Mental Health departments.
  • Assist patients in navigating the healthcare system, understanding medical procedures and instruc-tions, and accessing available resources.
  • Advocate for patient rights and equitable treatment within the healthcare system.
  • Adhere to confidentiality protocols and ethical standards in all interpretations and translations.

Compensation & Other Benefits

  • Festival Bonus: 2

There is no provisions for relocation. 2 Festival Bonuses after completion of one year of uninterrupted continuous service. Permanent contract. Salary according to level 03 (three) of the internal MSF salary grid (BDT 39000 Gross). Salary is not negotiable. Income tax deduction from salary based on current income tax rule. 2 annual leave days per month worked. Medical insurance for employee and direct dependents based on Health Care Policy- Locally Recruited Staff.
