Responsibilities & Context

DASCOH Foundation is a non-government and non-profitable organization. Utilizing local knowledge of the people at grass root and available resources at local level, DASCOH has put forward an alternative participatory development process. It has developed a professional workforce with flexible decision-making capacity. DASCOH is using supportive supervision & coaching method to develop human capital and thus helping to develop the capacity of local government institutions, which is reflected in the project planning and management with local government, private sector, donors and the community. Currently, it operates ten projects, covering the thematic areas of health, climate adaptation, human rights, quality education, livelihood improvement, etc. mainly covering Rajshahi division but all over the country. Several projects are ongoing in the thematic areas and information technology support are required for innovation, monitoring, analysis and showcasing good practices and achievements.

DASCOH is seeking application from qualified individual for the role of Mental Health Counsellor (Only female) for its “Improving young people’s access to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) through a community- based approach and cooperation with state institutions” (A-EMPOWER) project which aims to improving the sexual and reproductive health and rights of adolescents in Rajshahi, Chapainawabgonj and Naogaon Districts of Rajshahi Division, Bangladesh in line with SDG 3.7 “Ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health services, including family planning, information and education, and mainstream reproductive health into national policies and programs.

The Mental Health Counsellor will play a crucial role in enhancing community-based mental health services at the Model UH&FWC level. The incumbent will support the organization by coordinating field-level implementation of mental health interventions in alignment with organizational management, government stakeholders, donors, and other key partners. S/he will ensure the effective and compliant implementation of mental health activities, including counseling, awareness-raising, capacity-building, and referral services. Additionally, the role involves advocacy efforts, stakeholder engagement, and technical support to strengthen the integration of mental health services within primary healthcare facilities.

Job responsibilities:

  • Keep the adolescent corner in a well decorated adolescent friendly mode for provision of services.
  • Identification and registration of psychosocial needs of beneficiaries based on the vulnerability.
  • Support union level ASRH coordination committee and their function to improve the mental health component of ASRH in the area.
  • Work with UH&FWC for identifying need and support the facilities for making it appropriate for providing adequate mental health counselling service under ASRHS in the adolescent friendly corner.
  • Maintain accurate compliance records and reports along with promote understanding of compliance responsibilities and expectations amongst team members.
  • Actively promote the availability of counselling services and carry out, individual or group counselling and mental support to adolescents and caregivers/ families (when needed).
  • Refer clients to other specialists or other higher institutions for further assistance, when necessary.
  • Responsible for arranging material needed for counselling activities and maintain and collect update from the government authority.
  • Inform and discuss with line manager about any difficulties and problems arising during the day-to-day activities.
  • Ensure the client friendly environment at the UH&FWC both for ASRH and specific for mental health counselling.
  • Support to conduct the Model UH&FWC management committee meeting regularly.
  • Document best practices, case studies and learnings for reporting.
  • Support to SACMO and FWV for preparing report related to adolescent health.
  • Linkage with Union Parishad for regular support to the Model UH&FWC and take action for fund raising.
  • Maintain a high-level coordination with union level health and family planning staff.
  • Support to create demand in the project area for seeking the mental health counselling services.
  • Ensure community and specially, adolescent/youth engagement for participating in the project activities.
  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.
  • Performs other functions related to Health activities and initiatives that may be assigned by the supervisor.
