Responsibilities & Context

Job Context:

Breaking the Silence is a non-profit, voluntary organization registered with the Department of Social Services (Registration No. 05037, Date: 17 October 2000) and NGOAB (Registration No. 1642, Date: 20 May 2001). The organization works to establish child rights, prevent child abuse and child sexual abuse, prevent child marriage, accelerate child-friendly good governance, improve the quality of education at the primary and pre-primary level, prevent violence against women, empowering children and women. The organization is implementing a project named Sports for Protection, Resilience and Transformation (SPiRiT) ubder the consortium Climate Action at Local Level (CALL) in Satkhira district of Bangladesh. The project will be implemented by the support of ‘ Tdh Foundantion . BTS is going to recruit the ‘MHPSS Officer for the mentioned project and the position’s desk office will be at 5 upzila in Satkhira districts.

Project Name : ‘Sports for Protection, Resilience and Transformation (SPiRiT) ubder the consortium Climate Action at Local Level (CALL)’

Tenure of Services Contract:

3 (Three) months probation period. After successful completion of the probation period, based on the performance of the staff and recommendation from the supervisor, the post may be continued till the project’s lifetime.

Job Summary:

The MHPSS officer will design, implement, and oversee mental health and psychosocial support programs for adolescents and youth, integrating climate resilience and sports activities. This role aims to enhance the mental well-being and resilience of young people affected by climate change through innovative and engaging interventions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) programs that integrate climate resilience and sports activities.
  • Develop training materials and conduct workshops for staff and volunteers.
  • Collaborate with local communities, schools, and sports organizations to promote mental health awareness.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess the impact of MHPSS programs.
  • Collect and analyze data to inform program improvements and report findings to stakeholders.

Capacity Building:

  • Train and mentor local staff, volunteers, and community leaders in MHPSS best practices.
  • Provide ongoing support and supervision to ensure the quality and sustainability of MHPSS interventions.

Advocacy and Partnership:

  • Advocate for the integration of MHPSS in climate and sports programs at local, national, and international levels.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with NGOs, government agencies, and other stakeholders.

Additional Responsibilities

Technical and System Development

  • Develop and design systems to support MHPSS initiatives.
  • Write and implement code for MHPSS-related software and tools.
  • Conduct testing and provide ongoing maintenance for technical systems.

Implementation and Management

  • Oversee the implementation of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support(MHPSS) projects, ensuring they meet timelines and objectives.
  • Ensure new MHPSS systems integrate seamlessly with existing infrastructure.
  • Manage resources effectively to support MHPSS activities.

Learning

  • Facilitate continuous learning and development opportunities for staff and stakeholders.
  • Promote the sharing of best practices and lessons learned within the team.

Accountability Mechanisms

  • Develop and implement mechanisms to monitor and evaluate MHPSS programs.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of MHPSS activities and outcomes.

Designing Training Modules on MHPSS

  • Design and develop training modules focused on MHPSS.
  • Conduct training sessions for staff, partners, and community members.

Recreational Activities

  • Develop and implement recreational activities to support mental health and psychosocial well-being.
  • Engage with communities to promote participation in recreational activities.

Development/Collection of MHPSS Counseling IEC/SBCC, Audio/Video Materials

  • Develop and collect Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) and Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) materials.
  • Produce audio and video materials to support MHPSS counseling.

Referral Linkage with Respective Government Sectors for MHPSS Cases

  • Establish and maintain referral linkages with government sectors for MHPSS cases.
  • Coordinate with government agencies to ensure effective referral and support systems.

Working with Internally Displaced Population (IDP) and Youth Affected by Climate Vulnerability**

  • Implement MHPSS programs targeting IDPs and youth affected by climate change.
  • Provide tailored support services to address the specific needs of these populations.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Overall psychosocial intervention design (Both Structural and Non-Structural) and implementation within the Project.
  • Designing of training module on MHPSS, Recreational activities (Indoor and outdoor) with support of technical team of Tdh.
  • Provide training on mental health and psycho social support (MHPSS) for the project staffs, community facilitator’s capacity building training, youth and adolescent as per the Organization and Project need.
  • Technical guidance to the project team for any mental health case management,
  • Development/collection of MHPSS counseling IEC/SBCC, audio/video materials and orient to the field team for their use properly.
  • Establish referral linkage with respective government sectors for MHPSS cases,
  • Maintain effective communication, negotiation, and dispute resolution skills at community level, staffs level as well as stakeholders’ level.
  • Advocacy with government sectors and community stakeholders to gain support for the project and sustainability of the works.
  • Develop girls club, multi-purpose child and adolescent center. Work with adolescents and youth empowerment as well as different age groups, conduct youth and adolescent session, psychosocial counselling session etc.
  • Implement and process facilitated with different sports activities and establish social inclusion, social coherence and psychosocial wellbeing.
  • Working with internally displaced population (IDP) and youth effect of climate vulnerability. Engage child and adolescent on MHPSS activities.
  • Be able and willing to respond to natural disasters or emergency situations, when needed and any other task assigned by Supervisor and /or Senior Management of BTS.
