- Knowledge of blood collection techniques and medical terminology
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle patients calmly, including children and anxious individuals
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Basic computer and record-keeping skills
- Certification in phlebotomy (preferred/required depending on organization)
Responsibilities & Context
- Collect blood samples from patients using venipuncture, finger pricks, or heel sticks
- Properly label and store specimens to ensure accurate testing
- Maintain patient comfort and safety during blood collection procedures
- Verify patient identity and ensure correct test orders
- Follow infection control and safety protocols
- Prepare samples for laboratory analysis or transport
- Maintain cleanliness of equipment and work area
- Keep accurate records of collected samples
