Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s/Diploma Degree in Agriculture/Forestry/Botany (with experience of nursery management) or relevant field.

Additional Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in the relevant field.
  • Experience of working in the Rohingya Camp and adjacent host community context will be preferred.
  • Having non-discriminatory and gender-sensitive perceptions along with safeguarding and child protection compliances.
  • To protect children in connection.
  • Respectful to safeguarding policy.
  • Excellent computer literacy especially MS applications
  • Having problem-solving and prompt decision-making capacity
  • Good communication, facilitation and motivational skills.
  • Good hand in writing both narrative and quantitative Reports.
  • Good in writing and communication skills in English and Bangla.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Willing to drive motorcycle having a valid driving license.
  • Understanding local culture and languages is preferable.
  • Abilities to undertake extensive travel to the village/community level.

Responsibilities & Context

Project Brief: The ‘Bamboo for Climate Resilience/Action (B4CR/A) Project’ is working towards the mitigation of risks emanating from climate change, environmental degradation and natural hazards in an integrated manner through bamboo focused forestation in several Sub-districts and Rohingya Refugee Camps in Cox’s Bazar.

Job Statement

The key job responsibility of the Plantation Officer is to assist the Nursery Manager in preparing different documentations that are necessary for the implementation of bamboo focused nursery management, seedling raising and overall plantation. Overall, the Plantation Officer will be responsible for managing all aspects of bamboo plantation operations, including site preparation, planting, maintenance, harvesting, and processing. He/she will need to have a deep understanding of bamboo plants, as well as the ability to manage staff, handle administrative tasks, and maintain accurate records. His/her ultimate goal will be to ensure that the bamboo plantation is productive, profitable, and environmentally sustainable.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

Programme Activities

  • The primary responsibility of the Plantation Officer is to assist the Nursery Manager to manage all the climate smart bamboo nurseries and ensure that the bamboo plants are healthy and growing well. This involves planting new bamboo plants, propagating them through various methods, and ensuring that they receive adequate water, sunlight, and nutrients.
  • Assisting the Nursery Manager in planning, budgeting and execution of raising different prescribed bamboo seedlings/saplings as per project requirements after a thorough assessment of current demand and supply chain of bamboo in the designated project areas.
  • Plantation Officer will be responsible for selecting suitable sites for bamboo plantations and preparing the land for planting. This involves soil testing, land clearance, and planting site design.
  • The Plantation Officer will need to manage the planting and maintenance of bamboo plants on the plantation. This includes the selection of appropriate bamboo species, propagation, planting, irrigation, fertilisation, and pest control.
  • The Plantation Officer will be responsible for planning and executing the harvest of mature bamboo culms (stalks) from the plantation. He/she will also be responsible for overseeing the processing of the harvested bamboo, which may include drying, treating, and storing the culms.
  • Assisting the Nursery Manager on capacity development training for the local bamboo growers
  • Assist the Nursery Manager for keeping records, managing budgets, and handling paperwork related to the bamboo nursery. He/she may need to create reports, maintain inventory records, and manage accounts.
  • The Plantation Officer will be responsible for managing the resources required for the plantation. This includes managing the plantation budget, procuring and maintaining equipment and supplies, and managing labor resources.
  • The Plantation Officer will be responsible for maintaining accurate records of all plantation activities, including planting, maintenance, harvesting, and processing through plantation journal.
  • Accompaniment support to project management and donors during field visits and sharing of monitoring findings in regular basis.

General

  • Sharing monitoring results regularly and attend special meetings, notably at sub-district and camp level.
  • Assist Project Manager as per his/her requirements.
  • Participate documentation/Case study/ any others study/research in the field level.
  • Adhere to organizational policies and project standards.
  • Ensure safety and well-being of team members and participants.
  • Promote and endorse safeguarding policy among staff.
  • Follow reporting procedures for safeguarding related incidents and encourage others to do so
  • Perform any other task as and when assigned by the programme/management.
