Responsibilities & Context

Professional Language Tutor (Russian | Spanish | French | Japanese | Italian | Portuguese)

Language Skill Development

  • Four-Pillar Focus: Planning lessons that cover all core competencies: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.
  • Conversational Practice: Leading “Speaking Clubs” or one-on-one sessions to reduce students’ anxiety when speaking in a foreign language.
  • Grammar & Vocabulary: Explaining complex grammatical structures and expanding student vocabulary through contextual usage rather than just lists.
  • Pronunciation Coaching: Correcting accent, intonation, and rhythm to ensure students are understood by native speakers.

Curriculum & Exam Preparation

  • Test Readiness: Training students for standardized proficiency exams like TEFL, TESOL, or equivalent preferred.
  • Material Customization: Adapting textbook materials to fit the student’s specific professional or personal needs (e.g., Business English vs. Conversational English).
  • Cultural Context: Teaching the idioms, slang, and social etiquette of the target language’s culture to prevent social misunderstandings.

Assessment & Feedback

  • Placement Testing: Assessing new students’ CEFR levels (A1 through C2) to place them in the correct class.
  • Error Correction: Providing “delayed feedback” (noting errors during speech and correcting them afterward) to maintain the student’s flow and confidence.
  • Progress Tracking: Maintaining logs of student mistakes and improvements to show tangible growth over time.

Engagement & Environment

  • Immersive Atmosphere: Encouraging a “Target Language Only” environment in the classroom to force natural language processing.
  • Interactive Tools: Utilizing multimedia like podcasts, news clips, and interactive apps to keep the learning process engaging.
  • Motivational Support: Language learning can be frustrating; a tutor acts as a coach to keep students motivated during the “intermediate plateau.”
