The BRAC Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) programme has made a critical contribution nationwide over the years. The programme has reached out across 289 Upazillas – about half the country. It has helped over 41.62 million people gain access to hygienic latrines, reached about 13.9 million people with hygiene education, and 2.3 million people gained access to safe drinking water. Targeted water and sanitation financing, entrepreneurs’ development and financing, loans for the poor, grants and water subsidy for the ultra-poor, along with motivation for self-financing for the non-poor has ensured equal access for all wealth categories. From 2006 to 2024, BRAC WASH Programme has reached 2.8 million people with safe drinking water, 6,785 secondary schools with WASH facilities. Furthermore, 4000 water entrepreneurs including water vendors were developed.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIESP:
- Prepare hygiene promotion implementation and capacity building plan for the respective districts/Upazilas in collaboration with respective staff of WASH projects/other BRAC programmes.
- Extend support to the Specialist, Hygiene Promotion & Capacity Building (HP&CB) on design and conduction of study for the identification of capacity gaps of WASH programme/projects staff and prepare report on survey of hygiene promotion and capacity building.
- Facilitate the hygiene promotion activities including Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) in schools and community level in the intervention’s areas under different WASH projects as per the implementation guideline and WASH programme strategy (such as Ananya Apps).
- Coordinate with other BRAC programmes for the integration and promotion of hygiene awareness activities at the field level through using the digital platforms/apps or other innovative approaches.
- Ensure the engagement of target beneficiaries in every step of hygiene promotion initiatives and implementation of hygiene promotion activities in the field, and reporting.
- Support the Specialist – HP & CP and WASH team to identify and use of the effective Behaviour Change Communications (BCC) materials for different target audiences.
- Regularly visit field to follow up and monitor the impact of hygiene awareness activities at schools and communities as well as capacity building initiatives for improving the overall performance of WASH programme.
- Guide and assist hygiene promotor/volunteers in community mobilization and sensitization for WASH including MHM messages.
- Work with the concerned sectoral stakeholders at the field level for rapidly coverage of target population with hygiene messages including MHM by using digital platform/apps (Ananya Apps).
- Draft the filed visit report and training reports in quality and submit to Specialist – HP & CB, WASH and prepare lession learn and success stories for programme.
- Organize and conduct trainings/orientations for building knowledge and skills of WASH hygiene promotor/ volunteers, school management committee, community participants, teachers, and health workers.
- Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme’s goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
- Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
- Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, encourage others to do so.
