  • Sound knowledge of Financial report and financial software operation.
  • Well conversant in accounting software.·
  • Financial Management, managing donor/partners funds, VAT, TAX and relevant compliance·
  • Budget preparation and monitoring and review of expenses.·
  • Good administrative and leadership skills, ability to work in an team and good interpersonal skill·
  • Knowledge on procurement procedures, different payment procedures and maintain books of accounts.·
  • Computer skills on MS Word, Excel and Power point and email communications·  Knowledge on safe guarding (Child Protection, Gender and Anti-Sexual Harassment)

Responsibilities & Context

CODEC is an inheritor of DANIDA Bangladesh derived from couple of project intervention explicitly DANIDA Boat Building Project and Boat Rental Scheme. CODEC has been working as a people centered development organization since 1985. CODEC has been growing and evolving into efficient and effective non-governmental development organization in the coastal area of Bangladesh. From the beginning of its development intervention CODEC started its activities only with the fisherfolk communities but over the period CODEC now extended its working area with other disadvantaged coastal communities along with the fisherfolk community.

CODEC is currently seeking qualified candidates from potential Bangladeshi nationals for the position of Project Accountant for its project titled: Environmental Human Rights for a Just Transition: Strengthened Local CSOs Transforming Climate Hotspots into Resilient Communities (ENGAGE) project. The project will be implemented in Morrelgonj and Saronkhola Upazila under Bagerhat District and Mothbaria Upazila and Indurkani Upazila under Pirojpur District.The project is being implemented in collaboration with other NGOs in 6 districts having NETZ Bangladesh as the lead organization. European Union (EU) is financially supporting the project. The Position will be available from 1 April 2025 to 31 December 2028

The project is implemented through an integrated approach building synergies across the program elements with the objectives of achieving the following results through interrelated components:·

Enhanced Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) independently contribute to sustainable development, human rights, democracy and good governance in Bangladesh.·

Active local CSOs led by women, youth and indigenous peoples sustainably protect and promote the right to a healthy, clean, and safe environment of the people most vulnerable to climate change and environmental degradation and advance a low-carbon and climate-resilient society.

Responsibility/Accountability: 

  • Responsible for financial administration and accounting.
  • Preparation of payment vouchers with ensuring deduction of Taxes & VAT;
  • Keeping invoices, staff advances other documents and records properly & safely;
  • Data entry in accounting system;
  • Documentation, payroll accounting and payment,
  • Prepare staff payroll and others.
  • Update all financial books and records as per financial procedures following CODEC, NETZ Bangladesh’s financial compliance
  • Ensure a mechanism of all expenses including district offices to keeping controlling within total approved budget.
  • Maintain all the personal Files of the Project Personnel properly.
  • Maintain leaves records including annual or sick leave along with other travel approval documents properly.
  • Maintain and update all bill and vouchers of every expenses of the program§ Ensure maintenance of purchase procedures.
  • Prepare periodic (monthly, quarterly, annual) financial report and submit to Project Coordinator within 5th day of each following month so that Project Manager can submit it within 10th day of each month to NETZ Bangladesh.
  • Assisting with internal and external audits.
  • Ensure the accounts keeping, stock registers and establish a financial controlling mechanism with all districts offices.
  • Ensure physical inventory records in each district office and ensure to update it on a quarterly basis.
  •  Assist Project Coordinator in all sorts of administrative tasks as well as ENGAGE Project financial management if necessary.
  • Carry out any assigned task need to be accomplishing within the due time as instruction given by Project Coordinator, NETZ Bangladesh and Head Office Financial Personnel.
  • Financial Management:
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and Annual Project Financial Reports
  • Prepare journal vouchers from different project offices.
  •  Maintain and check the log books of the motorcycles
  • Ensure security of the assets and office

Work Supervision:

  • The Project Accountant will work under the technical supervision of the Project Coordinator for each assigned task and assignment and the overall guidance of NETZ Bangladesh with respect to administrative supervision responsible to the employer or his designated authority.
  • Knowledge Management:
  • a.   S/he will be responsible for maintaining a Work Journal, where s/he will document learnings, mistakes, challenges, experiences, accumulated knowledge, etc either in English/Bengali and share with line manager/CODEC management when required.
  • b.   S/he will be responsible to coordinate with all teams/departments of project/program to document and share all knowledge that can be relevant and beneficial for the organization.
  • PSEA: S/he should abide by the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC)’s six core principles on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policy.
