Desirable Attributes:

  • Knowledge of local context and experience working with fisher folk communities.
  • Ability to design and deliver training sessions and workshops effectively.
  • Fluency in Bengali; proficiency in English is an advantage.

Job Context:

SAINT-Bangladesh is a value based independent, non-profit and Non-Government Organization (NGO), participating in survival strategies of coastal poor. It believes in integration of right based approach in striving for people centered sustainable development initiatives, maintaining a level of transparency, participation, accountability, child and gender sensitivity and respect to human rights and dignity principles in management. SAINT-Bangladesh is seeking a professional for the position of Project Coordinator for the project title of “Empowerment and Equity: Transforming the Lives of Women in Fisheries in Barisal Sadar under Empowering Women through Civil Society Actors (EWCSA) project, by Oxfam Co-funded by European Union. The project will be implemented in Barishal district from July 2024. Note that this requirement will depend on the availability of donor fund.

Job Summary:

The Project Coordinator will play a pivotal role in leading and managing the implementation of a community-driven project aimed at enhancing the socio-economic status and rights of women fisher folk in the Barisal district of Bangladesh. This position involves coordinating project activities, engaging with various stakeholders, and facilitating capacity-building initiatives to empower women and promote gender equality within the fisheries sector.

The Project Coordinator will ensure that all project components are executed effectively, adhering to timelines and budgetary constraints while fostering strong relationships with local authorities, community leaders, and partner organizations. This role will also encompass monitoring and evaluating project outcomes, advocating for policy changes, and conducting training sessions on critical issues such as rights awareness, leadership, and climate resilience.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of gender issues, strong leadership and communication skills, and a proven track record in project management. They will be committed to creating a positive impact in the lives of women fisher folk and addressing the challenges they face in their communities. This role involves coordinating with stakeholders, managing project staff, ensuring compliance with Oxfam, European Union and SAINT-Bangladesh’s guidelines, and facilitating community engagement and capacity-building initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Planning and Implementation

  • Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Coordinate and oversee the implementation of project activities, ensuring they align with the project objectives and timeline.
  • Facilitate the development and execution of training programs, workshops, and community meetings.

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local authorities, NGOs, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
  • Advocate for the inclusion of women fisher folk in policy discussions and decision-making processes.
  • Collaborate with local partners to enhance the effectiveness of project activities.

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation (M&E) frameworks to track project progress and impact.
  • Conduct regular site visits and assessments to monitor the implementation of activities and provide technical support.
  • Analyze data and prepare reports on project outcomes, challenges, and lessons learned.

Capacity Building and Training

  • Organize and facilitate training sessions, workshops, and community forums on gender equality, rights awareness, leadership, and climate resilience.
  • Provide technical assistance and mentorship to community leaders and project staff.
  • Ensure that all training and capacity-building activities are participatory and inclusive.

Administrative and Financial Management

  • Prepare and manage project budgets, ensuring effective utilization of resources.
  • Maintain accurate records of project activities, financial transactions, and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements, organizational policies, and legal regulations.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare regular progress reports, financial reports, and impact assessments for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Document best practices, case studies, and success stories to highlight project achievements.
  • Support the preparation of project proposals and funding applications.

Community Mobilization and Support

  • Establish and support community forums and support groups for women fisher folk.
  • Facilitate the development of community-based climate adaptation plans and alternative income-generating activities.
  • Organize awareness sessions and ADDA meetings on rights, health, hygiene, and social issues.
