  • Experience:
  • At least 5 years of experience in peace-building, social cohesion, or related activities, preferably in refugee or conflict-affected settings.
  • Proven experience in project management, including planning, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and capacity building, particularly with vulnerable populations.
  • Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders, including marginalized and vulnerable groups.
  • Proficiency in Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) practices.
  • Financial management and budgeting skills.
  • Fluency in English and Bengali; knowledge of local dialects and Rohingya language is an advantage.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in challenging environments.

Responsibilities & Context

Conditions:

Contract: Initial contract of with a 3-month probation period. Renewal is subject to performance and availability of funding.

Duration: 33 Months/2 Year 9 Months (01 February 2025 – 31 October 2027)

Probation Period: 3 Months

Reports to: Director of the Project (Deputy Director-Program)

Supervises: Project Officers, Field Facilitator, and Support Staff

Position Summary:

The Project Coordinator will lead the implementation of a 33 months youth led peace-building and social cohesion project aimed at enhancing harmonious relationships both within the Rohingya refugee communities and between the refugees and adjacent host communities in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. The coordinator will be responsible for overall project management, coordination with stakeholders, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting. The project seeks to foster mutual understanding, reduce tensions, and promote peaceful coexistence through community engagement, capacity building, conflict resolution, and livelihood development initiatives. S/he must have a clear understanding on young peacebuilders’ security, entrepreneurial and livelihood skills and capacity to contribute to conflict prevention and resolution, promoting inclusion and social cohesion, inclusive local governance mechanisms to strengthen peace processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management:
  • Lead the planning, implementation, and monitoring of the peace-building and social cohesion project focused on Rohingya refugees and host communities.
  • Develop and manage detailed work plans, ensuring that project activities are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Monitor progress and make adjustments as necessary to ensure the successful completion of the project.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with Rohingya refugees, host communities, local authorities, NGOs, and other GO, CSO level stakeholders at the sub-district and district level.
  • Facilitate dialogues, processes, negotiations, workshops, and other participatory activities to build trust and cooperation among the communities.
  • Represent the project in meetings, conferences, and other forums related to peace-building, social cohesion, and refugee issues.
  • Team Leadership and Capacity Building:
  • Supervise and mentor project staff, community and camp facilitators for ensuring their professional growth, adherence to project goals, harnessing the outcomes and deliverables.
  • Provide training and capacity-building opportunities to team members and local stakeholders to enhance their skills on young peacebuilders’ security, entrepreneurial and livelihood skills, promoting inclusion and social cohesion, inclusive local governance mechanisms and so forth.
  • Promote a collaborative and positive work environment.
  • Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:
  • Develop and implement a robust Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) framework to track project progress and impact, particularly in reducing tensions and fostering peaceful coexistence.
  • Regularly collect, analyze, and report on project data, ensuring that all reports are accurate, timely, and comply with donor requirements.
  • Identify lessons learned and best practices to inform future programming.
  • Financial Management:
  • Prepare and manage the project budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and compliance with financial guidelines. Facilitate Value for Money (VfM) approach in all actions.
  • Monitor expenditures and ensure that project financial reporting is accurate and timely.
  • Work closely with the finance team to ensure that all financial transactions are conducted in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Risk Management:
  • Identify and assess potential risks to the project, particularly those related to community tensions, and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure that all project activities are conducted in a manner that minimizes risk to the project, team members, and stakeholders.

  • Salary and Benefits:
  • =75,831/= (Seventy-Five Thousand Eight Hundred Thirty-One Taka Only.)

  • Location: The position is based in Ukhiya/Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, with frequent travel to project sites within the refugee camps and host communities.
