Responsibilities & Context

Job Context:

SAINT-Bangladesh is a value based independent, non-profit and Non-Government Organization (NGO), participating in survival strategies of coastal poor. It believes in integration of right based approach in striving for people centered sustainable development initiatives, maintaining a level of transparency, participation, accountability, child and gender sensitivity and respect to human rights and dignity principles in management. SAINT-Bangladesh is seeking a professional for the position of Project Coordinator for the project: “Advancing Gender-Responsive Climate Actions for Urban Resilience in Barishal City Corporation.” supported by “Climate Bridge Fund-CBF”, Co-funded by KfW (Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau). The project will be implemented in Barishal City from January 2025. Note that this requirement will depend on the availability of donor fund.

Job Summary:

The Project Coordinator will play a pivotal role in leading and managing the implementation of a community-driven project aimed to enhance the resilience of slum communities in Barishal City through climate-resilient infrastructure, improved WASH facilities, and sustainable livelihood opportunities. It includes activities such as water point installations, sanitary latrine upgrades, community hygiene promotion, and capacity building on climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction (DRR).

The Project Coordinator will ensure that all project components are executed effectively, adhering to timelines and budgetary constraints while fostering strong relationships with local authorities, community leaders, and partner organizations. This role will also encompass monitoring and evaluating project outcomes, advocating for policy changes, and conducting training sessions on critical issues such as rights awareness, leadership, and climate resilience.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of climate change, disaster resilience, gender issues, strong leadership and communication skills, and a proven track record in project management. They will be committed to creating a positive impact in the lives of climate migrants and addressing the challenges they face in their slum communities. This role involves coordinating with stakeholders, managing project staff, ensuring compliance with CBF/KfW and SAINT-Bangladesh’s guidelines, and facilitating community engagement and capacity-building initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Planning and Implementation:
  • Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and oversee the implementation of project activities in line with the project’s objectives and goals.
  • Ensure that all project activities are carried out effectively and efficiently, adhering to the budget and timeline.
  • Ensure compliance with project requirements, donor guidelines, and relevant regulations.
  • Team Coordination and Capacity Building:
  • Lead, supervise, and support the project team, ensuring clear roles and responsibilities.
  • Organize and facilitate training sessions and workshops for staff, community members, and stakeholders on project-related topics, including climate change adaptation, hygiene practices, and WASH facility maintenance.
  • Develop and implement a capacity-building plan for the project team and community members.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E):
  • Develop and maintain the project’s M&E system, ensuring the collection and analysis of data to measure progress against project indicators.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor the implementation of project activities, assess the quality of work, and provide technical support to the team.
  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports to the Project Manager and donor, highlighting achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, local NGOs, and the donor.
  • Organize and facilitate meetings, workshops, and community consultations to ensure active participation and engagement of all stakeholders.
  • Develop communication materials and reports to share project progress and outcomes with stakeholders and the wider community.
  • Financial Management and Budgeting:
  • Assist in the development of the project budget and ensure that expenditures are within the approved budget.
  • Monitor project expenses, track financial transactions, and prepare financial reports in coordination with the Finance Officer.
  • Ensure compliance with financial procedures and donor requirements.
  • Risk Management and Problem-Solving:
  • Identify potential risks and challenges to project implementation and develop risk mitigation strategies
  • Quality Assurance:
  • Ensure the quality and integrity of project deliverables through rigorous quality assurance processes.
