  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) practices, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Financial management skills, with experience in budgeting and expenditure tracking.
  • Fluency in English and Bengali; knowledge of local dialects and the Rohingya language is an advantage.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in challenging environments, demonstrating resilience and adaptability.

Responsibilities & Context

Contract:

Initial contract of 33 months with a 3-month probation period. Renewal is subject to performance and availability of funding.

Reports to: Project Coordinator

Supervises: Field Facilitators

Location: Ukhiya/Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh

Duration: 33 Months/2 Year 9 Months (01 February 2025 – 31 October 2027)

Probation Period: 3 Months

Position Summary:

The Project Officer will play a pivotal role in the implementation and management of the peace-building and social cohesion project aimed at fostering harmony between Rohingya refugees and host communities in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. The Project Officer will support the Project Coordinator in the day-to-day operations of the project, including coordinating field activities, capacity building initiatives, organize and harness grassroots youth groups and individuals, liaising with stakeholders, and assisting in monitoring and evaluation efforts. S/he must have a clear understanding on young peacebuilders’ security, entrepreneurial and livelihood skills and capacity to contribute to conflict prevention and resolution, promoting inclusion and social cohesion, inclusive local governance mechanisms to strengthen peace processes. This position requires strong organizational skills, experience in community-based projects, and a commitment to promoting peace and social cohesion in challenging environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Coordination:
  • Assist the Project Coordinator in planning and organizing project activities, ensuring that they align with the overall project objectives.
  • Develop detailed work plans for project implementation, outlining specific activities, timelines, and resource requirements.
  • Ensure that project activities are executed on time and within the allocated budget, providing regular updates to the Project Coordinator.
  • Field Activity Management:
  • Oversee the work of Field Facilitators, ensuring that they have the necessary resources and support to carry out their tasks effectively.
  • Coordinate and monitor field activities, such as community meetings, workshops, and training sessions, to ensure they meet project objectives.
  • Supporting the capacity development related actions of the project by mainstreaming youth organizational development, youth engagement strategies, youth led action-research to promote peace and social cohesion, youth participation in the decision-making processes and so forth.
  • Provide guidance and troubleshooting support to Field Facilitators as needed.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for local communities, government authorities, NGOs, and other stakeholders involved in the project.
  • Facilitate dialogue and collaboration between different community groups, fostering an environment of trust and cooperation.
  • Represent the project at local meetings and events, effectively communicating the goals and progress of the project.
  • Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) framework to assess the impact of project activities.
  • Collect and analyze data from field activities, preparing regular reports on project progress, challenges, and outcomes.
  • Contribute to the preparation of donor reports, ensuring that they are accurate, comprehensive, and submitted on time.
  • Capacity Building:
  • Identify capacity-building needs within the project team and local stakeholders.
  • Organize and facilitate training sessions for Field Facilitators, community leaders, and other relevant stakeholders on topics related to peace-building and social cohesion.
  • Support the development of training materials and tools that are culturally appropriate and context-specific.
  • Administrative and Financial Support:
  • Assist in the preparation and management of the project budget, ensuring that expenses are tracked and recorded accurately.
  • Work closely with the Finance and Admin Officer to manage procurement processes, logistics, and other administrative tasks.
  • Ensure that all project documentation is well-maintained, organized, and easily accessible.
  • Risk Management:
  • Identify potential risks to the project, particularly those related to community tensions and conflicts, and work with the Project Coordinator to develop mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure that all field activities are conducted safely and ethically, with respect for local customs and norms.
  • Other Duties:
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Project Coordinator to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
  • Stay informed about developments in the field of peace-building and social cohesion, incorporating best practices into project activities.
