Requirements

Education

  • Age at least 18 years
  • 0-1 year of previous experience in prosthetic manufacturing.
  • Preferably 0-1 year of experience in development and humanitarian contexts.
  • Registered with a local association.
  • Previous NGO experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work in harsh conditions.
  • Strong multidisciplinary teamwork approach.
  • Communication skills in verbal and written Bangla.
  • Knowledge of disability and development issues in Bangladesh.
  • Sensitivity to child protection and gender-based violence issues.
  • Experience in humanitarian contexts, particularly in rehabilitation and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of Chittagonian/Rohingya language is a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of English and/or Burmese language.

Position: Prosthetics and Orthotics Technician

Line Manager: In-Charge Prosthetics and Orthotics.

Type of Contract: Fixed-term

Duration of the Contract: July -2024 to October-2025.

Note: The advertised position will be contingent upon contract award.

Job Responsibilities:

Operational Implementation:

  • Manufacture and repair prosthetic devices using a range of techniques and materials.
  • Stay updated with advances in prosthetic manufacturing technology and techniques.
  • Measure, fabricate, produce, and deliver Prosthetics & Orthotics (P&O) devices in collaboration with Rehabilitation Officers and Physiotherapists.
  • Provide training, assessment, and follow-up for individuals using devices, including technical checks, initial standing and gait training, and guidance on use, maintenance, repair, and replacement.
  • Ensure all individuals receive quality prosthetics and orthotics, both in workshops and on the field.
  • Consider contraindications and precautions to ensure beneficiary safety during service provision (DO NO HARM).
  • Fabricate orthotic and prosthetic devices using low-temperature thermoplastic materials.
  • Perform basic repairs of prosthetic and orthotic devices.
  • Create low-cost and custom-made orthotic devices.
  • Adjust and fabricate shoes and sandals for height and arch adjustments.
  • Fit and adjust ready-to-use orthotic devices.
  • Repair and maintain assistive devices such as wheelchairs and crutches.
  • Fabricate low-cost positioning devices.
  • Follow project management policies and procedures for P&O service provision.
  • Maintain individual files and records for each person receiving P&O devices, with regular follow-ups.
  • Conduct periodic field visits for device follow-up and development.
  • Support procurement and installation of workshop equipment.
  • Assist in preparing proposals for prosthetic material purchases and quality checks.
  • Set up the P&O workshop according to specifications, ensuring accessibility and safety.
  • Maintain effective and efficient workshop operations and advise on costs related to materials, equipment, maintenance, training, and service delivery.
  • Coordinate with Rehabilitation Therapists and Physiotherapists to provide necessary gait training and rehabilitation therapy.
  • Collaborate closely with the rehabilitation team for patient treatment, follow-up, and evaluation.
  • Produce updated reports and case stories as required by management.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness initiatives and adapt work arrangements for effective humanitarian response.
  • Perform other related activities as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Compensation & Other Benefits

  • Gross salary (monthly): BDT 44,625/-
  • Phone bill allowance (monthly): As per Policy
  • Travel allowance (monthly): Bill on actual
  • Weekly 2 holidays.
