Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in psychology, clinical psychology, counseling psychology or Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work with counseling training; and Master’s degree will get high priority.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in similar position in NGO/INGO,
  • Have motivation to stay at District level and work with Migrants, community peoples, GoB departments, civil Society, NGO and development partners
  • Working experience with migration related projects will add value.

  • Strong report writing skills in English.
  • Bangla typing skill is most needed.

  • Adaptability and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of local context and cultural sensitivities.

Language: Excellent verbal & written communication skills in Bangla and English.

Responsibilities & Context

Context and Scope:

IOM is currently implementing a project titled ‘Bangladesh: Reducing Irregular Migration And Supporting Returnees & Displaced Persons’, in coordination with Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment (MoEWOE) and supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Government of Italy to strengthen migration management with particular focus on promoting safe migration, addressing adverse drivers of migration, and supporting the sustainable reintegration of vulnerable returnees.

The Key objective of the project is ‘Strengthening safe migration pathways in Bangladesh through raising awareness, supporting sustainable reintegration and providing alternatives to irregular migration’. This is a 2.5 months project starting from 1st Septmeber’2024 with possibility of project extension for one year subject to availability of funding.

KNUS is an implementing partner (IP) for implementing the “Reducing Irregular Migration and Supporting Returnee and Displaced Persons” Project activities in Rajshahi District. KNUS is seeking suitable candidates for Psychosocial Counselor position (conditional), who will be placed at Rajshahi District Project Office, and responsible to implement project activities.

Under the overall guidance of the IOM and direct supervision of the KNUS, and in collaboration with relevant project staff and stakeholders and the respective local Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) partners, KNUS. The Psychosocial Counselor will be responsible for the tasks mentioned below:

Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Identify psychosocial needs and vulnerabilities of the returnees
  • Plan psychosocial reintegration support to the beneficiaries according to the needs and vulnerabilities
  • Execute psychosocial reintegration support according to the reintegration plan
  • Provide individual psychosocial counselling to the beneficiaries
  • Provide need-based family counselling to the beneficiary’s family members
  • Provide need based Psychological First Aid (PFA) support to the returnees
  • Identify and refer the beneficiaries for providing trauma counselling/advance level counselling and psychiatric treatment
  • Identify and maintain regular coordination with the potential institutions/ organizations for providing psychosocial counselling, trauma counselling and psychiatric treatment
  • Support beneficiaries for accessing medical treatment
  • Maintain regular coordination & communication with Local Government, Elites & community level stakeholders.
  • Support to organize meeting, seminar, trainings and events at the District, Upazila level & Union level and facilitate the events as required.
  • Provide support in selection, registration, reintegration counselling of the project beneficiaries, and ensure data entry in the recommended information management tools.
  • Participate in comprehensive training on psychosocial counseling/basic counseling skills , PFA, gender responsive reintegration counseling including case management and referral mechanism.
  • Assist District Manager to ensure (re)integration planning and refer them to relevant economic, social, and psychosocial services for sustainable reintegration or safe re-migration.
  • Ensure post referral monitoring and follow up of the beneficiaries to ensure access to the services.
  • Maintain counselling related confidential data, information.
  • Support to prepare reports and monthly updates.
  • Support to refer project beneficiaries and their family members to the available social services
  • Ensure compliance to the Data Protection Principles.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the management.

Employment Status: Full Time/ Project Based
