Requirements

Education

BSc. Nursing or Diploma in Paramedics or Midwifery or related subject from any reputed institution with a valid certificate.

Additional Requirements

Experience in clinical practice or field research, preferably in a healthcare setting within departments such as Obstetrics and Gynecology, Neonatology, or Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) will get preference.

Essential:

  • Technological skills for handling electronic data collection tools.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work under pressure.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel to different study hospitals in the Dhaka and Chattogram divisions as required.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with data collection software, such as Google Forms, KoboToolbox, etc
  • Comfortable using tablets and other mobile devices for data collection.
  • Knowledge of the local language where the study will be conducted is a plus.

Responsibilities & Context

Projahnmo Research Foundation (PRF) in association with Johns Hopkins University, USA has a long and illustrious history of conducting research in Bangladesh. PRF’s research has contributed to the improvement of the health of Bangladeshi citizens and has supported the career development of numerous Bangladeshi public health professionals. PRF is seeking qualified and motivated applicants from Bangladeshi nationals for the position of Research Assistant for a multi-country, hospital-based study to assess the ongoing practice regarding intrapartum and early postnatal care provided to women and newborns in participating health facilities. The study will be implemented in ten countries, coordinated by the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Burnet Institute. In Bangladesh, the study will be implemented in selected hospitals of Dhaka and Chattogram divisions.

Duty Station:

Following hospitals in Dhaka and Chattogram Divisions:

  • Dhaka division: Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, Kishoreganj 250 Bed District Sadar Hospital
  • Chattogram division: Chittagong Medical College Hospital, Feni 250 Bed District Sadar Hospital, Red Crescent Maternity Hospital, Chattogram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital, Noakhali 250 Bed General Hospital, Chandpur 250 Bed General Hospital, Lakshmipur District Hospital

Responsibilities:

A. Data Collection and Management

  • Be present at the assigned study hospital daily to collect data from records from various hospital departments, including the delivery room, birth units, postnatal/postpartum ward, and other units where women could give birth (e.g., emergency room, operating theatre).
  • Assist interviews with postpartum women.
  • Ensure accurate and timely entry of collected data into electronic data collection tools.
  • Monitor data quality and address any discrepancies in coordination with the Hospital Coordinator.
  • Assist to conduct providers’ interview.

B. Coordination and Communication

  • Report daily to the Hospital Coordinator regarding progress and any issues encountered during data collection.
  • Coordinate with hospital staff to ensure smooth data collection processes.

C. Compliance and Ethical Standards

  • Ensure all data collection activities are conducted in compliance with ethical standards and study protocols.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of participant information.
  • Obtain informed consent from study participants as required.

D. Skills:

  • Relationship building, influencing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision making.
  • Strong communication skills in Bangla.

E. Others:

  • Delivering results on time

  • Applying technical and professional expertise

  • Full availability to engage during data collection period
  • Willingness to work on weekends, including public holidays.
