Requirements

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), preferably Statistics/ Applied Statistics/ Biostatistics/ Environmental Science/ Social Science/ Public Health from any recognised and reputed University of Bangladesh or abroad.

Experience

• 1 to 2 years

Additional Requirements

• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in research, preferably in the WASH sector or development sector.
• Understanding of the issues relating to water, sanitation and hygiene in national and global context is essential
• Knowledge on both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies (mix-methods), study designs, data collection tools, data analysis, high standard reporting, dissemination of key findings, tools for capturing knowledge and learnings.
• Strong analytical skills, and capacity to work independently and meet tight deadlines
• Excellent computer skill, and hands on experience of data visualisation software, mobile/ cloud-based data collection tools/ platforms, and analytical software like MS Excel, Stata, R studio, GIS, etc.
• Demonstratable experience with peer reviewed journal publications will be an advantage
• Admirable leadership, interpersonal, facilitation, and presentation skills
• Written and verbal communication skills both in Bangla and English

Responsibilities & Context

Job Purpose

The incumbent will play a crucial role in the Research Team, directly contributing to the enhancement of WaterAid’s technical services. This entry-level position focuses on designing, planning, and implementing research-driven ideas and projects that align with WaterAid’s mission. Under the guidance of the Research and Knowledge Management Expert, s/he will carry out specific tasks that support the success of programmes and projects, ensuring consistent and clear communication across teams. Key responsibilities include capturing, documenting, and archiving research findings to advance WaterAid’s goals in providing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene for all.

Key Responsibilities

• Analysis of data using statistical, qualitative, and quantitative techniques to ensure effective interpretation and final output.
• Develop research protocols, data collection tools, and ethical guidelines, using relevant methods and data visualisation techniques.
• Coordinate with research agencies to produce research reports ensuring high standards of scientific rigor.
• Prepare scientific manuscript for peer reviewed journal, policy brief and learning brief out of the research and program data for wider audience.
• Assist in the development of Terms of Reference (TOR) for research/ studies with appropriate requirements, and development of research proposal with appropriate methodologies.
• Visit programme/project intervention areas as necessary to provide necessary support and oversee execution by field staff or external agencies.
• Assist in the development of training module and communication materials for community, institutions, partners, sector professionals.
• Provide required support to assess performance of different pilot initiatives and different research/ action-research.
• Documentation, reporting and presentation.
