Requirements

Education

  • Masters with Honors at Bachelor’s level, preferably in a subject from Social Science discipline (in subjects like Economics, Sociology, Public Administration, International Relations, Development Studies etc.), Statistics and English etc., with at least 10 (Ten) years of experience in empirical research, particularly with experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis of survey data in a reputed organization;
  • Social scientist conducting and interpreting applied research typically have a master’s or Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in anthropology, sociology or others social science related subjects.

Experience

  • At least 10 years

Selection Criteria: The successful candidate for this position should have demonstrated superior technical skills, a capacity to operate successfully across sectors and with other donor agencies, civil society organizations in Bangladesh, and first-rate interpersonal skills. The incumbent must be able to interact effectively with senior officials of the government, senior officials of donor agencies.

  • Having good understanding of development issues facing Bangladesh as well as those facing other developing countries;
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to speak persuasively which would be important for presenting ideas clearly and concisely to both internally to PRI professionals as well as when required with government officials dealing with policy;
  • Sound analytical abilities and Adept in Microsoft office package;
  • In depth knowledge of data analysis and ability of work with large dataset;

Job Context:

Samahar is a National renowned multi-disciplinary Research and Development Foundation registered with Joint Stock Companies and Firms in Bangladesh. Samahar has implemented over 225 different projects all over the country on research, studies; surveys; project evaluations; impact assessment in the field of health, education, socio-economic development, infrastructure development, Resettlement, rehabilitation and institutional capacity building. Conducted operational research; formative research; in-depth qualitative investigations and social safeguard survey in all sorts of development fields. Samahar has accomplished preparation and implementation of resettlement and rehabilitation plan, land acquisition plan and livelihoods restoration plan with infrastructure development projects of the government of Bangladesh.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Research Coordinator leads us in developing and delivering an effective and robust research strategy. This role provides direction, oversight and critical challenge to all research projects across the organization.
  • Preparation of project proposal & contribute to developing research concepts, methodologies, tools, techniques and processes of data collection;
  • Need high skills for Proposal writing and Overall coordination of project activities
  • Undertaking research projects and excellent report writing in Bangla and English prepare and make presentations of research findings capability as well as presentation of reports.
  • Facilitate focus group discussions and community market survey for assessing socio-economic needs of the communities and translate them to socio economic development plan and prepare socio-economic development contracts;
  • Collect primary and secondary data as and when required
  • Supervise and monitor field level data collection, ensure authenticity and objectivity of data, undertake analysis of data and participate in data collection, both primary and secondary, as and when appropriate;
  • Develop analysis plan and analyses collected data;
  • Key skills for social research-excellent organizational skills, management and coordination skills and presentation skills.
  • Contribute to policy advocacy undertaken based on research findings s/he was involved – draft policy briefs/position papers and assist in preparing advocacy plans
  • Assist in developing and updating creative, innovative and effective designs of policy research;
  • Undertake regular participatory monitoring and supervision of project activities including collection, compilation, consolidation, processing and analysis of data on different project components and documentation;
  • Perform any other relevant task assigned by the organization.
