Education

  • MSc in Microbiology or a closely related life science discipline with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 out of 4.00 or equivalent.
  • Candidates with strong relevant research experience in genome sequencing technologies will be preferred.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum 3-4 years of research experience at a reputed research institute such as icddr,b, IEDCR, NGRI, or a similar organization.
  • Should be able to carry out sequencing using oxford nanopore and Illumina platform.
  • Experience in molecular biology and microbiology laboratory techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with microbial culture, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, gel electrophoresis, ELISA, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
  • Should have strong bioinformatics knowledge and handling high throughput sequencing data using different tools such as SPADES, prokka.
  • Should be efficient both in Linux and Windows platform for handling large scale sequencing data as reflected by publication in high quality (Q1) journal(s).
  • At least 2 first-author publications in Q1 peer-reviewed journals.

Responsibilities & Context

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct molecular biology, microbiology, and bioinformatics-based research activities.
  • Perform bacteriophage isolation, characterization, host-range testing, and therapeutic evaluation-related laboratory work.
  • Carry out DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, ELISA, gel electrophoresis, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and sequencing-related laboratory procedures.
  • Analyze genomic and metagenomic data using appropriate bioinformatics tools.
  • Perform genome assembly, annotation, AMR/virulence profiling, phylogenomic analysis, CRISPR-Cas analysis, and scientific data visualization.
  • Maintain laboratory records, experimental data, SOPs, and research documentation.
  • Assist in manuscript preparation, grant/proposal writing, project reporting, and presentation of research findings.
  • Support thesis students, research trainees, workshops, and laboratory training activities.
  • Coordinate with research team members and contribute to ongoing projects at NGRI.
