Responsibilities & Context

Job Responsibilities of a Senior Accountant (Real Estate Sector):

Financial Reporting & Analysis

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements( balance sheet, cash flow). Analyze financial performance and trends across properties, developments, and investments.
• Assist in budget preparation and variance analysis.

General Ledger & Month-End Close

• Maintain and reconcile the general ledger accounts.
• Oversee the month-end and year-end close processes.
• Ensure timely and accurate journal entries, accruals, and inter-company transactions.

Real Estate Accounting Functions

• Track and reconcile real estate transactions (acquisitions, disposals, leases).
• Calculate property-level ROI, capitalization, depreciation, and amortization.
• Handle accounting for construction-in-progress (CIP) and development projects.

Compliance & Internal Controls

• Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and company policies.
• Support internal and external audits with documentation and analysis.
• Identify and implement internal control improvements.

Tax & Regulatory Filings

• Assist with property tax filings, income tax returns, and compliance reporting.
• Work with external tax consultants and auditors.

Team Supervision & Collaboration

• Support or supervise junior accountants or bookkeepers.
• Collaborate with property managers, asset managers, and finance teams.
• Provide financial insights for acquisitions, development planning, and asset management.

Systems & Process Improvement

• Use and help optimize real estate accounting software (Tally or equivalent).
• Identify process inefficiencies and implement automation or improvements.
• And any other tasks assigned by management !
