1. JOB PURPOSE

  • The purpose of the Senior Analyst (Statistics) position at BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health (BRAC JPGSPH) is multi-faceted and aligned with the broader objectives of the Urban Health Activities (UHA) program implemented in collaboration with selected city and municipality corporations across Bangladesh. The underlying principles of UHA are resources optimization, data to decision making and quality, and equitable health services delivery in the populations of city and municipality corporations. The job objectives are to:
  • To lead and conduct advanced statistical analyses to generate insights into the epidemiological dynamics, disease burden, equity in health service provision, and periodic analysis of shock and vulnerability within urban populations.
  • To identify public health challenges, informs evidence-based decision-making, and supports the development of interventions and policies aimed at improving health outcomes and reducing disparities in urban communities.
  • To contribute to capacity building efforts to health workforces and broader community to empower them with essential skills and knowledge

2. JOB RESPONSIBILITY

  • Epidemiological Analysis:
  • Lead the design and implementation of epidemiological studies using mostly secondary data to assess disease prevalence, incidence, and trends within urban populations, with a focus on understanding the distribution and determinants of diseases.
  • Utilize advanced statistical methods to assess disease prevalence, incidence, and trends within urban areas, considering demographic, socioeconomic, and environmental factors.
  • Disease Burden Assessment:
  • Analyze data to quantify the burden of diseases affecting urban populations, including communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases, and emerging health threats using mostly secondary data.
  • Assess disparities in disease burden across demographic groups, geographical areas, and socioeconomic strata within urban settings.
  • Identify priority areas for intervention and resource allocation based on the distribution and impact of diseases on urban communities.
  • Equity in Health Service Provision:
  • Evaluate the equity of health service provision within urban areas, assessing access, utilization, and quality of healthcare services across population groups.
  • Use statistical techniques to identify disparities in healthcare access and outcomes, including barriers to healthcare access and variations in service delivery.
  • Inform policy and programmatic interventions to address inequities in health service provision and improve healthcare access and quality for underserved urban populations.
  • Periodic Analysis of Shock and Vulnerability:
  • Conduct periodic analyses to assess vulnerability to shocks and emergencies within urban populations, such as natural disasters, disease outbreaks, and socioeconomic crises.
  • Analyze factors contributing to vulnerability, including social determinants of health, population demographics, and urban infrastructure.
  • Develop predictive models and risk assessments to inform preparedness and response efforts and mitigate the impact of shocks on urban communities.

3. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervisory role – Senior Statistician will provide leadership and guidance to junior research/statistical/M&E staff, overseeing their work in conducting epidemiological analyses, informing evidence-based decision-making, and implementing interventions.
  • Contributes to capacity building efforts by providing training, mentorship, and knowledge dissemination opportunities to empower stakeholders and strengthen the collective ability to address complex public health issues in urban settings
