  • At least seven to ten years of experience managing and implementing complex communication activities for international development projects, preferably with a USAID-funded program.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and publishing high-quality publications in Bangla and English and producing high-quality writing/communication documentaries.
  • Experience developing program communications and reports on project success.
  • Demonstrated experience with all types of social digital media (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).
  • Strong communication (written and spoken) and interpersonal skills in English and Bangla.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and manage competing priorities and activities.
  • Ability to work in high-stress situations.
  • Excellent in MS Office software operation. Experience in operating Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

Responsibilities & Context

Job Summary:

The Senior Manager of Communications & Documentation for the USAID Urban Health Activity (UHA)  is based in the UHA Dhaka office in Bangladesh and reports to the Chief of Party (COP). In this role, the Senior Manager will provide strategic and operational leadership for communications and knowledge management within the UHA project. The manager will work closely with the program team to ensure that all communication, advocacy, and documentation align with USAID and JSI’s branding and communication policies and guidelines. Additionally, the manager will offer technical support for creating, publishing, and distributing project-related materials e.g. briefs, program updates, annual reports, newsletters, project briefs, reports for specific observance days, photos, videos, etc. The Senior Manager will oversee the publication of research reports and other relevant documents and manage the program’s websites and social media accounts (if applicable) to facilitate effective communication with stakeholders.  In addition to managing internal and external media relations, the Senior Manager Communication and documentation will contribute to knowledge management and guide crisis communications when necessary.  The role will involve in ongoing collaboration with the  COP, Deputy COP, and other team members of the project in planning, implementing, and managing advocacy and communication actions and products.

Primary Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Develop a communications and documentation strategy to promote the UHA project’s success to a broader audience.
  • Develop detailed communication and documentation plans, including event calendars, and support in events by timely producing communication materials.
  • Plan, design, and produce project briefs, policy briefs, program updates, research reports, and other materials as required by the project.
  • Collect issue/event-based messages and information, including photos and videos from city teams and partner staff members, to design and publish bi-annual project updates and quarterly newsletters with support from the project and partners.
  • Prepare event reports, thematic reports, etc.
  • Plans for awareness days, and design promotional materials publications, and share success stories on platforms like LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook (JSI and USAID).
  • Develop documents for external communications such as PowerPoint presentations, project briefs, talking points, and factsheets.
  • Collect information and prepare case studies, success stories, and lessons learned for impact assessment and future reference.
  • Capacity building of project staff on communications best practices and story writing.
  • Suggest new communication activities, researching and recommending innovative branding techniques aligning with USAID’s branding and marketing policy.
  • Maintain regular communications JSI’s Comms Team for its guidance on publications and uploading items on USAID and JSI web portals and social media.
  • Coordinate with USAID/Bangladesh Development, Outreach, and Communication team to share the project’s work with USAID and other high-level international platforms.
  • Provide technical guidance to in-house and external teams (graphic designers, photographers, videographers, and other media producers) to align thematically with project goals.
  • Provides expert input in marketing publications such as training modules, handbooks, and booklets that are more decorative and communicative.
  • Draft and distribute press releases (print, electronic, and online media) to highlight UHA’s significant events and write newspaper articles on critical project issues.
  • Collaborate with project staff to prepare abstracts, collect relevant data/information, and arrange for timely submission to national/international conferences, workshops, or seminars.
  • Technical and editorial review and design feedback on communication materials under different program interventions of partner organizations according to quality and branding norms.
  • Provide technical assistance to the partners for producing case studies, success stories, and best practices.
  • Promote a knowledge-sharing and learning culture in the office. Actively work towards continuing personal learning and development in one or more Practice Areas. Prepare necessary reports, presentations, publications, and materials promptly or as required.
