Responsibilities & Context

Job Context:

The Senior Manager of Merchandising is responsible for leading the merchandising team to develop and implement effective merchandising strategies that drive sales growth and profitability. This role involves managing product selection, pricing, inventory, and promotional activities to create a compelling product assortment that aligns with customer needs and the company’s business objectives.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning:

  • Develop and implement merchandising strategies to achieve sales and profitability goals.
  • Conduct market analysis to identify trends, consumer preferences, and competitive activities.
  • Establish long-term and short-term merchandising plans that support overall business objectives.

Product Selection and Assortment:

  • Lead the selection and planning of product assortments, ensuring a diverse and profitable range of products.
  • Collaborate with buyers to source products that meet quality and cost standards.
  • Analyze product performance and make data-driven decisions to optimize assortments.

Inventory Management:

  • Oversee inventory levels to ensure optimal stock levels, minimizing overstock and stockouts.
  • Implement inventory control processes to improve turnover rates and reduce carrying costs.
  • Collaborate with supply chain and logistics teams to ensure timely product availability.

Sales and Profitability:

  • Develop and manage pricing strategies to maximize sales and margins.
  • Monitor sales performance and adjust merchandising strategies as needed to meet targets.
  • Identify opportunities for growth and develop plans to capitalize on them.

Promotions and Marketing:

  • Plan and execute promotional activities, including sales events, discounts, and marketing campaigns.
  • Work with the marketing team to develop and implement effective marketing strategies for product launches and promotions.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of promotions and adjust strategies accordingly.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the merchandising team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Set clear goals and expectations, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Promote professional development and continuous learning within the team.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Analyze sales data, customer feedback, and other relevant metrics to assess merchandising effectiveness.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on merchandising performance to senior management.
  • Use data insights to drive continuous improvement in merchandising strategies.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other departments, including marketing, sales, operations, and finance, to ensure alignment and support for merchandising initiatives.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects and initiatives to drive overall business success.
