Responsibilities & Context

The Senior Project Officer-Climate Smart Agriculture, will be responsible for promoting and implementing climate-resilient agricultural practices to enhance food security, improve livelihoods, and mitigate the impacts of climate change. The role involves working closely with beneficiaries, agricultural extension services, local government authorities, and other stakeholders to integrate climate-smart technologies and practices into farming systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in agriculture, climate change adaptation, and community engagement.

• Lead the implementation of climate-smart agriculture initiatives at the field level, ensuring alignment with project goals and objectives
• Promote the adoption of climate-resilient crops, sustainable farming practices, and efficient water management techniques
• Conduct regular SHG agricultural GIGA visit, monitor demo plot; nursery; lead farmers and develop climate adoptive tools practice
• Conduct training sessions, workshops, and demonstrations for farmers on climate-smart agricultural practices
• Develop training materials and extension tools tailored to local contexts and farmer needs
• Provide technical guidance to beneficiaries and local partners on crop diversification, soil health management, agroforestry, and integrated pest management
• Support the adoption of innovative technologies, such as saline tolerate seeds, and precision farming tools
• Work closely with Self-help groups to foster collective action and knowledge sharing
• Monitor the progress and impact of CSA interventions, collecting data on key performance indicators
• Prepare regular reports on project activities, outcomes, and challenges for submission to the management
• Conduct awareness campaigns on the importance of climate-smart agriculture and its benefits for food security and environmental sustainability
• Promote and ensure adherence to safeguarding policies within the team, integrating safeguarding standards in all project activities
• Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure for any reportable incidents and encourage team members to do the same
• Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme’s goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment
• Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action
• Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so
