Responsibilities & Context

About the organization:

  • ARK Foundation is a non-government organization dedicated to the socio-economic development of Bangladesh. Through evidence-based research, training and communications, it provides sustainable solutions for health, education and social development. Since its inception in 2013, ARK Foundation has been working closely with Government organizations, national and international NGOs, universities, and development partners to achieve its vision and mission. As a research NGO, we are working in the fields of health research, health system strengthening, urban health, mental health and tobacco control.
  • We are seeking to appoint a motivated Senior Research Associate who will be the Trial Coordinator in the SCIMITAR Trial, hosted by the University of York, UK. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-institution programme, the appointed researcher will coordinate the trial, oversee the day-to-day management of the trial including setting up the trial sites, recruitment and training of filed researchers, recruitment of trial participants, database development and data management, data collection, and follow up. S/he will be responsible for data management of the trial for multiple countries. S/he has to prepare weekly and monthly progress report, and present the progress in Trial Management Group (TMG) meetings. S/he will support the organisation of meetings with key stakeholders to engage them in the implementation of research and dissemination of findings. The successful candidate will benefit from a programme of mentoring and training.

Summary of the Project

  • “The SCIMITAR-South Asia Programme to Address Tobacco-Related Multiple Long-Term Conditions in Severe Mental Illness” is a new global health programme led by the University of York and Hull York Medical School, UK, in partnership with ARK Foundation and other academic institutions, research organisations, and public institutions of Bangladesh, the UK and South East Asia.

Desirable

  • Demonstrable interest or experience of working in research relevant to public health, in particular mental health and tobacco control.
  • Experience of working with government departments and/or NGOs.
  • Experience or interest in the dissemination of research and the presentation of results in an academic, public or policy setting.
  • Ability to manage a research project from inception to completion.
  • Demonstrable experience of producing high quality reports for publication in either an academic or policy environment.
  • Experience of working in multi-disciplinary academic teams, and on multi-institution projects
  • Must be proactive, able to work with minimal supervision and enthusiastic to perform field-based activities

Compensation & Other Benefits

  • Gross Salary: BDT 80,000 – 100,000 (all inclusive) based on the qualification of the candidate
  • Other benefits: Festival bonus
  • In-house lunch available, on payment
  • Two days off per week.
