Requirements

Education

B.Sc / Diploma in Nursing Science & Midwifery recognized by Bangladesh Nursing Council with 2 year experience in related field.

Additional Requirements

Registration: Must have valid registration with Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council (BNMC).
Experience: Having experience in Cardiac OT or Cardiac ICU.
Experience in handling cardiac surgery cases is mandatory.
In-depth knowledge of cardiac procedures, ICU protocols, and infection control practices.
Proficiency in handling medical equipment: ECG, ventilators, infusion pumps, defibrillators.
Strong clinical judgment and the ability to make quick decisions.
Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work under pressure and manage emergencies.
Willingness to work in rotational shifts, including nights and weekends.

Responsibilities & Context

1. Pre-Operative & Intra-Operative Responsibilities (Cardiac OT):

Prepare the operating room, ensuring all surgical tools, equipment, and sterile materials are ready.
Verify patient identity, surgical procedure, and consent forms prior to surgery.
Assist in patient positioning and preparation for cardiac surgeries (e.g., CABG, valve replacement).
Monitor sterile field and assist surgeons by passing instruments and managing surgical supplies.
Handle surgical specimens appropriately for laboratory analysis.
Support anesthesiology team during induction and recovery phases.

2. Post-Operative Care (Cardiac ICU):

Receive and stabilize patients from the OT to the ICU following cardiac procedures.
Monitor and interpret patient vitals (BP, ECG, oxygen saturation, CVP, etc.) and take immediate action in case of abnormal findings.
Administer medications, IV fluids, and blood products as per physician orders.
Manage ventilators, cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, and other life-support equipment.
Provide comprehensive nursing care including wound management, catheter care, and suctioning.
Deliver emotional and psychological support to patients and their families.

3. Emergency & Critical Care:

Respond promptly and efficiently to code blue and other life-threatening situations.
Participate in CPR, defibrillation, and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) interventions.
Maintain readiness to assist with emergency cardiac procedures (e.g., temporary pacemaker insertion).

4. Documentation & Reporting:

Accurately record all nursing interventions, medications, vital signs, and patient progress in the hospital’s EMR system.
Prepare post-operative and shift handover reports for incoming nursing teams.
Report any changes in patient conditions to physicians immediately.

5. Team Collaboration:

Work collaboratively with cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and ICU consultants.
Participate in daily ward rounds, multidisciplinary team meetings, and patient case reviews.
Mentor and train junior nursing staff and students as assigned.
