Additional Requirements

  • At least two years of relevant professional experience in interpretation services is required.
  • Resettlement processing or other NGO experience is preferred.
  • Previous work in a multicultural environment is preferred.
  • High level of professionalism while carrying duties per the USRAP Integrity and Compliance guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage time and meet deadlines, and work well under pressure in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Ability to support activities through good listening and analytical skills.
  • Able to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively and professionally with partners, colleagues, interpreters and refugee clients.
  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Flexible and willing to learn and take on new tasks.
  • Mature, positive attitude and able to work under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal and written English language skills required.
  • Working knowledge of Rohingya language is required.
  • Working language in Urdu/Arabic/Burmese languages preferred.
  • Sign language is preferred.
  • Computer Literacy –competence in Ms Office i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Outlook desired.
  • Ability and willingness to travel when required.

Responsibilities & Context

The Staff Interpreter will provide language support services for applicants to the USRAP. The Interpreter will interpret oral statements given by refugee applicants into the English Language and vice versa for, RSC Asia prescreening, USCIS adjudications, Cultural Orientation (CO) training, Inquiry and Outreach activities, as well as for verification, RSC Asia follow up activity, and DNA collection as requested.

Major Responsibilities

  • Provide interpretation for USRAP activities including RSC Pre-screening, USCIS interviews, Inquiries, Outreach and follow-up activities, and Cultural Orientation (CO) training.
  • Translate documents including but not limited to: USRAP, USCIS supporting documents, and CO training materials from target languages to English language and vice versa.
  • Assist in the training incentive interpreters when required including but not limited to IRC Way, Prevention of Fraud & Ethic, Interpreters Code of Conduct, and in filing compliance documents related to incentive interpreters.
  • Assist with providing feedback on incentive interpreters’ performance using RSC Asia’s internal evaluation form.
  • Assist in training and mentoring of new interpreters as needed.
  • Provide language support to Cultural Orientation (CO) team in CO materials review.
  • Translate documents from Bengali/Rohingya/Burmese to English language and vice versa.
  • Perform other relevant duties as directed by supervisor.

Department: Program Support, RSC Asia

Contract length: Till 30th September 2024 (with possibility of extension subject to funding, program needs and performance of incumbent)

Work Location: RSC-Asia, Cox’s Bazar/Ukhiya Office, Bangladesh.

Reporting to: Interpreter Services Manager

Expected Start Date: At Earliest

Remuneration Package: Competitive Base Pay with Fringe Benefits (As per IRC National Pay Scale in Bangladesh)
