Additional Requirements

  • 6-8 years of experience in gender, including experience with GBV programming.
  • Demonstrated technical experience in gender-related development activities, gender- based violence prevention and service provision, and institutional capacity building and coordination among various stakeholders (including government ministries).
  • Demonstrated skills in building and maintaining relationships with project stakeholders, local partners, and local organizations.
  • Fluency in English and Proficiency in Bengali.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; excellent demonstrated intercultural, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to PSHEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Harassment, and Abuse).
  • Demonstrated commitment to principles of Diversity, Equity, Belonging, and Inclusion (DEBI).
  • Ability to travel as required and as security conditions allow.
  • Strong experience overseeing M&E systems for USAID projects, including Collaborating, Learning, and Adapting (CLA) principles and approaches, is preferred.
  • Ability to travel within Bangladesh as required and as security conditions allow.

Responsibilities & Context

  • BRAC seeks to hire a Technical Advisor for the anticipated five-year $25 million USAID-funded Communities for Gender Equality (CGE). We are currently inviting expressions of interest for this role, which is expected to start in November 2024 and last for five years.
  • CGE will be focused on gender equality and inclusive development in support of Sustainable Development Goal 5. The activity may support interventions that address the full cycle of Gender- Based Violence (GBV) prevention, mitigation, and response.   • The Technical Advisor will play a key role in providing technical expertise and guidance on GBV and capacity strengthening on GBV to the team members and relevant stakeholders. The Lead will work closely with project teams, government partners, and other local and global stakeholders to ensure the integration of best practices and evidence-based approaches in addressing GBV and transforming harmful social norms. The Lead will manage capacity strengthening and provide necessary guidance in quality implementation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert technical guidance on developing and implementing strategies to address gender-based violence (GBV) and transform harmful social norms.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends, research, innovations, and evidence-based strategies in addressing GBV and gendered social norms, and integrate these insights into project activities.
  • Collaborate with project teams to design and execute gender-transformative interventions targeting GBV and social norms, ensuring they align with project objectives.
  • Develop training materials, tools, guidelines, and resources to enhance the capacity of project staff, partners, and stakeholders in addressing GBV and social norms.
  • Contribute to creating Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) frameworks to assess the impact of interventions on GBV and social norms, ensuring they reflect Do No Harm approaches.
  • Analyze data and provide actionable recommendations to improve the effectiveness of project activities.
  • Offer technical assistance and capacity-building support to project staff, government counterparts, and other stakeholders on GBV and social norms.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops to boost the knowledge and skills of project teams in applying gender-transformative approaches.
  • Represent the project at relevant forums, conferences, and working groups focused on best practices and evidence-based solutions for GBV and social norms.
  • Forge and maintain strategic partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to promote collaboration and knowledge exchange.
  • Work closely with COP and project staff to develop annual work plans and other deliverables that showcase project success and impact.
  • Participate in project knowledge management and dissemination efforts, engaging with USAID, other implementing partners, government agencies, and the public.

Safeguarding Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation to achieve the programme’s goals on safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, encourage others to do so.
