Uttaran is a people-centered organization using a rights-based approach to alleviate poverty, diversify livelihood opportunities and empower poor communities of Bangladesh.

Uttaran invites applications for the vacant position titled- Technical officer legal aid and advocacy for the Fisherfolk Integration for Sustainable Habitat and Natural Ecosystem Transformation Project

Reports to: Project Manager, Uttaran

Job Responsibilities

  • As the Technical officer legal aid and advocacy, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective implementation of project activities within the legal aid and advocacy operation. Key responsibilities include:
  • Community Engagement and Planning for Legal aid services
  • Provides technical assistance and legal services to individuals and communities who are unable to afford legal representation
  • Support training with government officers, members of the judiciary, civil society representatives, and local leaders, Fisherfolks including preparing training materials and leading practical and interactive sessions on specific aspects of the law including legal aid, mediation, access to justice, and other related topics.
  • Analyze and prepare proper recommendations for any follow-up training.
  • Track and coordinate the Activity’s trainings on legal aid.
  • Provide assistance with organizing events, including identifying training participants.
  • Support the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) team to analyze the effectiveness of the trainings and workshops and work to identify ways to improve outcomes.
  • Oversee the implementation and reporting of the Activities including conducting regular field visits.
  • Contribute to the Activity’s reports, including the weekly report, monthly and quarterly and annual reports.
  • Support other team members undertaking activities at the local level.
  • Identify potential issues, risks and challenges that may impact to delivery of activities/results and develop timely follow-up actions to mitigate them.
  • Provide necessary support to research and assessments conducted by the Activity.
  • Community Engagement and Planning for advocacy
  • Develops and implements advocacy strategies, provides advice to stakeholders and organize events
  • Develop/refine/update an advocacy strategy of fisherfolk cluster and other stakeholders.
  • Support the Chief-Service Delivery, Fisherfolk Cluster Leader and other key members of the cluster
  • Build and maintain relationships with National, District and local Fishnet stakeholders
  • Providing technical backstopping and other necessary support to the Technical Advisory Committee on Fishnet.
  • Organizing and providing technical backstopping and other necessary support for fisherfolk and conferences at the national, regional and district levels
  • Identifying opportunities to participate in dialogues, conferences and other appropriate venues to share project interventions and successes
  • Work with Knowledge Management Cluster and other relevant staff and partners on production of Fishnet related advocacy materials to influence policy and practices.
  • Arrange exposure visits by different stakeholders to develop competency, and ensure effective reporting of outcomes/impact of visits
  • Actively identify opportunities to support sustainability of project interventions
  • Networking and Partnerships:
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with lawyers and judicial officers working at the national level and in the Activity’s focus districts as well as community leaders.
  • Represent the organization in relevant forums, workshops, and meetings related to legal aid and advocacy.

Compensation & Other Benefits

  • Employment Status: Contractual- Fixed Term Contract for 3-4 years
  • Job Location: Khulna and Barishal division
  • Salary: 45,000 BDT to 50,000 BDT and 1 festival bonus equivalent of 1 month gross salary yearly
  • Compensation & other benefits: As per Uttaran’s Policy and Project Design.
