Requirements

Education

  • Minimum qualification is a master’s degree in psychology or related discipline with five years of relevant professional experience.

Additional Requirements

  • Experience in mental health and psychosocial support in emergency settings as an additional asset.
  • Training and experience in counsellor supervision and education will be an added advantage.

Experience Requirements:

  • Experience in coordination of MHPSS response in humanitarian settings
  • Experience in psychological and psychotherapeutic interventions in emergencies
  • Experience in providing services to displaced populations, migrants, refugees or conflict affected populations.
  • Significant experience in providing coaching and mentoring to national staff and non-specialists.
  • Experience in providing technical supervision to counsellors, social workers.
  • Experience in capacity building activities and curriculum development.
  • Experience and knowledge of UN and international agencies structures is an advantage
  • Previous experience in international organization is an advantage.
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentations skills in English.

Skills Requirements:

Demonstrated expertise and thorough knowledge on the practical application of the IASC Guidelines on MHPSS in Emergency Settings. Organizing trainings and developing materials for all stakeholders aimed at building the local capacity. Knowledgeable on the psychosocial impacts of forced and prolonged displacement.

Languages:

  • For all applicants, fluency in English (oral and written). Desirable – Working knowledge of local language is an advantage (Rohingya, Chittagonian, Burmese).

Responsibilities & Context

Responsibilities:

  • To contribute to the development of the IOM strategy in Cox’s Bazar for provision of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services as per IASC guidelines and community-based approach in MHPSS for refugees and host communities.

  • To participate and when needed to facilitate relevant coordination technical initiatives, including MHPSS WG in Cox’s Bazar, other MHPSS sub-groups and to build effective relationships with partners from humanitarian sector and government.

  • Identify training needs, areas of improvement in the implementation of the activities to ensure adequate capacity building to IOM staff and other stakeholders in the priority areas of Ukhiya and Teknaf

  • To provide technical guidance and facilitation on community-based approaches in MHPSS and focused mental health services through developing a training/supervision programme in coordination with the Government and academia

  • To design and implement capacity building programmes to equip health staff, other humanitarian workers and affected population with the skills to provide minimum response on MHPSS as well to promote a “do no harm” approach.

  • To contribute to the MHPSS system strengthening efforts to support Government of Bangladesh and other relevant service providers to ensure sustainability and exit strategy of IOM MHPSS programme in Cox’s Bazar

  • To ensure follow up, refresher sessions and technical supervision for trainees including MHPSS field teams (Counsellors, social workers and community focal points) to contribute to sustainability of capacity building initiatives and wellbeing of the field teams.

  • Ensure that the MHPSS program, including its capacity building component is driven by a sound MEAL framework and qualitative and quantitative indicators are always relevant and updated.

  • To maintain appropriate records/database of capacity building initiatives undertaken and collect information for further analysis and timely reporting.

  • To conduct assessments and analyse the context and propose interventions to enable expansion of both IOM geographic coverage to the host community in Ukhiya and Teknaf and thematic coverage within the camp sites.

  • If requested, to undertake missions in other key locations of the Country and explore potential to apply the IOM strategy for system strengthening and provide technical support to direct service providers

  • To perform and other duties as may be needed and agreed with the MHPSS Officer.
