Job Description: We are currently seeking a highly skilled Urban planning and GIS expert to join our dynamic team. As an Urban Planning and GIS Expert, you will play a pivotal role in providing specialized expertise in socio-economic analysis, research, and policy development to support our clients’ diverse needs.
Responsibilities: Creating long-term plans for land use, housing, transportation, community facilities, and services. Formulating policies that promote sustainable development and improve urban living conditions. Overseeing zoning codes and land use policies to ensure orderly development and environmental sustainability. Conducting public meetings, workshops, and surveys to gather input from community members and stakeholders. Evaluating the environmental impacts of proposed projects and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. Working on strategies to attract and retain businesses, improve employment opportunities, and enhance economic vitality. Planning for transportation systems, utilities, and other infrastructure to support current and future community needs. Ensuring all planning activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations. Creating aesthetically pleasing and functional urban spaces, including parks, public spaces, and streetscapes. Overseeing urban development projects from inception to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and coordinating with other professionals. Gathering, maintaining, and updating spatial data from various sources. Analyzing geographic data to identify patterns and trends and creating maps and other visual representations. Using GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) to perform spatial analysis, create maps, and manage geospatial databases. Designing, implementing, and maintaining GIS databases to ensure data accuracy and accessibility. Integrating GIS data with other data systems and software used by the organization. Providing GIS support for urban planning activities, including site selection, zoning analysis, and environmental impact assessments. Developing custom GIS tools and applications to meet specific project needs. Training staff and stakeholders on the use of GIS tools and data and providing ongoing technical support. Using GPS and other field data collection methods to gather spatial data for analysis. Staying updated on the latest GIS technologies and methodologies and applying innovative approaches to spatial data analysis.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, geography, civil engineering, architecture, environmental science, or a relevant field; Masters degree is preferred. Strong analytical skills and proficiency in quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex concepts and findings into clear and compelling presentations. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.Knowledge of socio-economic theories, methodologies, and models relevant to policy analysis, impact assessment, and strategic planning. Familiarity with statistical software and data visualization tools is desirable.
