Responsibilities & Context

Organization Overview:

BITL was established 40 years ago by Founder Principal Mrs. Lubna Choudhury. It offers English medium education from PG to Class XII. BITL offers the Edexcel and Cambridge curricula. BITL places a great emphasis on Linguistics – hence the school teaches English, Bangla, French and Mandarin Chinese, up to ‘O’ Level. In addition, the school prides itself on the range of extracurricular activities it offers to develop a well-rounded student. The school maintains a strict low 15:1 student to teacher ratio.

The school has about 250 staff including teaching and support. The school is split over Uttara and Gulshan campuses.

Position Purpose

The Vice Principal is responsible for supporting the Founder and Principal in overall governance, leadership and direction of the school. S/he is also expected to oversee the development, organization and implementation of the curriculum across designated domain; ensure that the learning and teaching provided by different teaching teams form a coordinated, coherent curriculum entitlement for individual students.

Hours of Work: Hours required to do the job. May be required to work days, evenings, weekends and public holidays. Must return to duty whenever needed.

1. Key Accountabilities

  • Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • 1.01. Under the leadership of the Founder Principal implement the shared vision and strategic plan for BITL which is responsive to the Board of Directors, parents and students it serves. At the core of this will be the educational, personal and moral development of the pupils.
  • 1.02. Work with the Founder Principal and staff to ensure synergy between the Board of Directors’ vision and the BITL vision and strategy.
  • 1.03. Providing necessary facilities to the teachers in her section in the discharge of their duties.
  • 1.04. Preparation of the school timetable, allocation of duties and teaching load of the teachers in each campus and section.
  • 1.05. Coordination of school and Edexcel IGCSE examinations for pupils within campus and for those sitting external exams in collaboration with the examing boards.
  • 1.06. Promotion, disciplining and detention of students in the school, in consultation with the Principal.
  • 1.07. Plan the year’s academic work in consultation with the staff and hold staff meetings at least once a month to (inter alia) review the work done during the month and assess the progress of the pupils.
  • 1.08. Be responsible for curriculum development, assessment of syllabi, textbooks and prescribe changes in the above with the approval of the Board of Directors.
  • 1.09. Supervise classroom teaching and secure co-operation and coordination amongst teachers of the same subject areas as well as inter subject co-ordination.
  • 1.10. Monitor and track the progress of educationally weak students and report these findings to the Principal and thus ensure growth and educational excellence through equal opportunities. For example, arranging for special remedial teaching of the students.
  • 1.11. Plan and specify a regular timetable for the scrutiny of student’s written work and home assignments and ensure that the assessment and corrections are carried out effectively and on time.
  • 1.12. Organize and co-ordinate various non-academic activities throughout the school or in such other ways as s/he may think fit in consultation with the Board of Directors.
  • 1.13. Develop and organize the Library resources and reading facilities in the school and ensure that the students and teachers have access to books and journals of established value and usefulness.
  • 1.14. Ensure that a growing social awareness (concern and compassion for others in need) is developed in the students, through on-going, planned outreach programs.
  • 1.15. Send the progress reports of the students regularly to the parents or guardians.
  • 1.16. Send an Annual Report to the Board of Directors to appraise them of achievements and challenges, and areas of needed support in her section of the school.
  • 1.17. Be available to Parents and Guardians in order to address their concerns about their child’s progress and development in the school.
  • 1.18. Ensure the pupils and staff are provided a safe, healthy and secure working environment.
  • 1.19. Deputize for the Principal as and when required or directed by the Board of Director or Principal.
  • 1.20. Discuss all critical Human Relations matters with the Principal.
  • 2.0. Human Relations Development
  • The duties related to human relations development of a Vice Principal in the School are:
  • 2.01. Help and guide teachers to promote their professional growth, and towards this end actively encourage their participation in courses designed for in-service training and development. This should be done in consultation with the Principal and the Board of Directors.
  • 2.02. Work together with the Board of Directors in promoting team spirit and staff morale through programs and systems for clearly determined two-way line of communication.
  • 2.03. Opportunities for communication between and among staff, students and parents through regular meetings.
  • 2.04. Be responsible for own professional and personal development by availing of relevant resource opportunities which will expose her to the new trends in education, school management, communication and personal skill development.
  • 2.05. Challenge, motivate, guide, empower others and supervise the work of the teaching staff of the school.
