A Welding & Piping Inspector is responsible for ensuring that welding and piping systems are installed, maintained, and repaired according to industry standards and project specifications. Their job responsibilities typically include:

1. Inspection and Testing

  • Inspect welds and piping systems to ensure they meet applicable codes, standards, and specifications (e.g., ASME, API).
  • Conduct visual inspections of welds and piping, checking for defects like cracks, porosity, or incomplete penetration.
  • Perform non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as radiographic, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, and dye penetrant testing.

2. Compliance and Documentation

  • Ensure that all welding and piping activities comply with safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Verify that the materials used in welding and piping are appropriate and conform to project specifications.
  • Review and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders.
  • Document inspection results, including any defects or issues, and report them to the appropriate personnel.

3. Quality Assurance

  • Monitor welding procedures and practices to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Check that welders and pipefitters are qualified and certified for the specific types of work they are performing.
  • Ensure that welding equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
