Responsibilities & Context

Zimbra Installation and Maintenance:

  • Install, configure, and maintain Zimbra Mail Server on Linux (CentOS and RedHat)platforms.

  • Perform regular updates, patches, and version upgrades for Zimbra mail systems to ensure stability, security, and performance.

Mail Server Management:

  • Develop, implement, and manage Zimbra mail server solutions, ensuring high availability, scalability, and fault tolerance.

  • Administer mail flow policies, email routing, and ensure proper configuration of SMTP, POP, and IMAP protocols.

Security Configuration and Administration:

  • Configure and enforce security policies on Zimbra mail systems, ensuring secure email transmission and protection from spam, viruses, and phishing.

  • Implement encryption (SSL/TLS) for Zimbra to ensure secure communication.

  • Regularly audit email security and implement necessary measures to safeguard against unauthorized access.

Backup and Disaster Recovery Planning:

  • Plan and implement regular backup procedures for Zimbra mail data, including user accounts, emails, and system configurations.

  • Develop and test disaster recovery strategies to ensure minimal downtime in the event of system failure or data loss.

Network Integration and Performance Monitoring:

  • Collaborate with network engineers to plan and integrate Zimbra mail servers into the existing network infrastructure.

  • Monitor system performance, including server load, mail queue, and resource utilization, to identify bottlenecks and optimize system efficiency.

  • Ensure Zimbra operates effectively within the network and performs load balancing if required.

Email Application Virus Protection:

  • Maintain and customize email applications for virus protection, integrating antivirus and anti-spam technologies into Zimbra to ensure emails are scanned and filtered for threats.

  • Regularly update virus definitions and security patches to safeguard against new threats.

System Monitoring and Incident Response:

  • Continuously monitor Zimbra server logs, mail queues, and system alerts to detect issues proactively.

  • Respond to critical incidents, including email system outages or performance degradation, ensuring timely resolution.

Capacity Planning and System Tuning:

  • Administer server performance by analyzing the utilization of hardware and system resources.

  • Plan for server capacity needs based on usage patterns and expected growth.

  • Tune Zimbra system configurations to enhance performance and ensure optimal resource allocation.

Technical Documentation and Reporting:

  • Develop and maintain clear and comprehensive documentation for Zimbra server configurations, troubleshooting steps, and security measures.

  • Prepare reports on system performance, security audits, and any incidents for internal stakeholders.

User Support and Troubleshooting:

  • Provide technical support to end-users for email-related issues, including mailbox configuration, email delivery, and spam filtering problems.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex email system issues related to Zimbra, including mail flow, server connectivity, and user account issues.

Compliance and Best Practices:

  • Ensure Zimbra systems are configured in compliance with relevant security regulations and corporate policies.

  • Stay updated on industry best practices for email security, system administration and data protection, ensuring Zimbra is always aligned with these standards.

Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Work closely with the IT infrastructure team to integrate Zimbra into overall system architecture, including file servers, directory services (LDAP), and other critical applications.

  • Collaborate with other teams on security audits and vulnerability assessments to ensure the Zimbra infrastructure is protected.

SLA Management and Service Delivery:

  • Ensure the timely delivery of email services as per defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

  • Monitor Zimbra’s availability and performance to meet organizational requirements and ensure minimal service interruptions.
