Responsibilities & Context
Project: Site Management and Site Development Project in Camp-15
Reports To: Project Manager
Location: Camp-15, Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar
Job Type: Contractual
Department: Emergency Response
Contract Duration: 5 months (1st November-2025-31th March-2025), with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding.
Work Hours: Full-time, 48 hours per week, with flexibility required for field activities and travel.
BACKGROUND
Mather Bari Bohumukhi Somaj Kallan Songstha (MBSS) is a newly established initiative aimed at empowering the Rohingya community in Cox’s Bazar through advocacy, capacity-building, and protection programs. MBSS strives to strengthen the voices of the Rohingya in policy dialogues and international engagements, focusing on leadership development, anti-trafficking measures, and cultural preservation. MBSS is committed to creating a platform for community-driven advocacy and fostering partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, UN bodies, and academic institutions.
Job Summary:
The Project Engineer will supervise and ensure the quality of construction works in the community, focusing on community infrastructure development, including foot trails, bamboo bridges, and other essential structures. The engineer will work closely with community mobilizers, supervisors, and laborers, ensuring construction work adheres to the agreed specifications and designs. The role also involves preparing progress reports, conducting assessments, and providing technical support to construction workers.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise construction works in the community and ensure they meet quality standards as per the agreed specifications and design.
- Work closely with community mobilizers, supervisors, and daily hired casual laborers to ensure effective execution of the project.
- Prepare and maintain the measurement book (MB) for each scheme, ensuring accurate documentation.
- Maintain records of daily construction workers, their work, and the volume of completed works.
- Update records related to foot trails, bamboo bridges, and other structures established in the community.
- Prepare daily and weekly progress reports and share updates with the Project Manager.
- Support the preparation of project completion reports (PCR) on a scheme-wise basis.
- Conduct needs assessments and prepare feasibility reports for community infrastructure projects.
- Assist in preparing detailed Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for construction works.
- Provide technical orientation and guidance to construction workers on best practices and safety protocols.
- Conduct assessments for community infrastructures, prepare sketches, and submit them to the Shelter Engineer and other team members for approval.
- Ensure all construction works comply with safety regulations and environmental standards.
- Regularly inspect ongoing construction works to monitor progress and identify potential issues.
- Coordinate with external stakeholders, including local authorities and contractors, to ensure the timely delivery of materials and resources.
- Review and approve materials for construction, ensuring they meet the required quality standards.
- Monitor project budgets and ensure cost-effective solutions are implemented without compromising on quality.
- Provide technical assistance in resolving any construction-related issues during the execution phase.
- Assist in preparing progress presentations for donors and stakeholders as needed.
- Ensure proper documentation and filing of all technical reports, site photos, and related documentation for future reference and auditing purposes.
Working Conditions:
- Contractual position based at Camp-15, Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, with occasional travel to other camps or locations as required.
- Flexibility in working hours, especially during community events or emergencies.
