Additional Requirements

Candidate Technical Knowledge:

  • Candidate should have knowledge on deep knowledge of garment construction, fabric types, pattern making, grading, and fitting.
  • Candidate should have expertized on proficiency in using garment technology software (CAD, etc.) and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong understanding of quality control processes and international quality standards (e.g. ISO, AQL).Experience with product development and costings.

Responsibilities & Context

As a Garments Technologist for M&S, you will be responsible for ensuring that all garments are produced to the highest technical standards, aligning with the quality, fit, and performance criteria set by Marks & Spencer. This role will involve working closely with the buying teams, suppliers, and our other factories (Sister Concern Units) to ensure the highest quality development, production, and delivery of garments for M&S. Your role will support the buyer in maintaining quality while optimizing cost, time, and resources in the RMG (Ready-Made Garment) sector in Bangladesh.

Product Development:

  • Collaborate with the M&S buying team to develop new styles and ensure that all garments meet the required technical specifications, quality standards, and customer expectations.
  • Conduct detailed analysis of garment samples, providing feedback on fit, fabric, construction, and overall quality.
  • Oversee the technical handover process from design to production, ensuring the correct execution of M&S design details and specifications.

Fit & Size Standards:

  • Ensure that all garments meet M&S’s global sizing and fit requirements.
  • Work with suppliers and internal teams to approve fit samples and make necessary fit adjustments to ensure alignment with the target fit and customer preferences.
  • Provide guidance and technical expertise to resolve any fit-related issues that arise during the production process.

Quality Control & Assurance:

  • Monitor the quality of products throughout the production process to ensure compliance with M&S’s quality standards and specifications.
  • Conduct pre-production meetings with suppliers and factories to ensure that all quality guidelines are clearly communicated and understood.
  • Perform quality inspections at various stages of production to ensure consistency and timely issue resolution.

Supplier Collaboration & Technical Support:

  • Establish strong relationships with suppliers and manufacturers, providing them with technical support to ensure quality control and compliance with M&S’s standards.
  • Ensure timely and accurate communication with suppliers regarding technical specifications, garment construction, and materials.
  • Assist in troubleshooting technical issues during production, advising on solutions to ensure the timely delivery of quality products.

Critical Path Management:

  • Assist the buying team in managing the critical path for each style, ensuring that all timelines are met, from product development to final delivery.
  • Proactively resolve any delays or challenges within the critical path that may affect product timelines and launch dates.

Material Sourcing & Sustainability:

  • Work closely with the buyer and supplier to select appropriate fabrics, trims, and materials that align with M&S’s sustainability and quality standards.
  • Ensure that all materials used in the production process are compliant with M&S’s sustainability guidelines and environmental policies.
  • Contribute to the selection of eco-friendly and sustainable materials in line with M&S’s commitment to sustainable fashion.

Technical Training & Development:

  • Provide technical training to suppliers and factories, ensuring they understand the required garment standards and technical specifications.
  • Stay updated on new developments in garment technology and production processes, sharing relevant insights with the team to continuously improve garment quality and efficiency.
