Responsibilities & Context
Community Development Centre (CODEC) is going to implement the Contingency Partnership to Respond to Emergencies in Chattogram Division, funded by UNICEF Bangladesh; which will assist affected populations in Cumilla, Feni and Noakhali districts., Covering health, nutrition, WASH, child protection, education, and social behavior change.
The project targets over 600,000 individuals, focusing on pregnant women, children, and vulnerable groups. Key activities include medical camps, nutritional support, safe water and sanitation facilities, child protection, and educational continuity, all integrated with capacity development.
Duration – 6 months.
Job Summary:
The Coordinator (WASH) will lead the planning, coordination, and implementation of the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) component of the project. The role involves ensuring the provision of safe drinking water, improved sanitation facilities, and promoting hygiene practices through effective collaboration with government authorities, stakeholders, and community members. The coordinator will manage field teams, ensure timely delivery of project outputs, and maintain close coordination with relevant departments and partners to meet the project’s WASH objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead Project Implementation for WASH Activities:
- Oversee the overall implementation of WASH activities including the provision of safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene promotion.
- Ensure timely and efficient disinfection of 1,000 water points, rehabilitation of 160 shared water points, and the provision of water purification tablets (WPTs) and jerrycans to affected households.
- Ensure the cleaning and rehabilitation of sanitation facilities in poor households, shelters, and evacuation points to ensure safe sanitation.
- Coordinate the installation of 50 gender- and disability-friendly latrines in ultra-poor households.
Hygiene Promotion and Awareness:
- Oversee the distribution of 500 household-level handwashing facilities and train beneficiaries in installing tippi-taps.
- Recruit and train 16 volunteers to conduct hygiene behavior awareness sessions in the community.
- Distribute Standard Hygiene Packages, including menstrual hygiene management supplies, to adolescent girls and women in the affected areas.
Coordination and Stakeholder Management:
- Serve as the key point of contact for WASH activities and liaise closely with the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) to ensure smooth coordination and implementation of WASH-related interventions.
- Collaborate with other project components (Health, Nutrition, etc.) to ensure integrated service delivery.
- Engage with donors, government authorities, community leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure that WASH interventions are aligned with local needs and project goals.
Team Management and Capacity Building:
- Manage and guide the WASH project team, including volunteers, to ensure that all team members understand their roles and responsibilities.
- Provide technical support and capacity-building opportunities to project staff and volunteers.
- Oversee the quality and timeliness of field-level activities and provide solutions to challenges as they arise.
Monitoring, Reporting, and Documentation:
- Monitor the progress of WASH activities against project objectives, ensuring all targets are met within the project timelines.
- Prepare and submit high-quality reports on the progress of WASH interventions to donors and other relevant stakeholders, ensuring accurate documentation of achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.
- Ensure proper documentation of all WASH activities, including data collection, assessments, and reports on key indicators.
Resource Mobilization and Supply Management:
- Ensure the timely distribution of necessary WASH materials such as WPTs, jerrycans, handwashing facilities, hygiene packages, and sanitation tools.
- Coordinate the restoration, operation, maintenance, and disinfection support to water points in households and shelters.
PSEA Policy-
S/he should abide by the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC)’s six core principles on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policy. Ensure the safety of team members (in respect to Prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse – PSEA) from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation to achieve the program’s goals on safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
Contingent Task Assignments:
The Project Head may assign additional tasks based on the demands of the emergency situation and program requirements.
