Responsibilities & Context

Job Responsibility :

Oversee and ensure smooth operations of assigned business unit(s).

Supervise day-to-day activities including fleet/plant management, manpower deployment, logistics, and productivity.

A Candidate for  operations manager for a shipping berth operator typically needs extensive experience in maritime, logistics, or port operations, including a minimum of 5-10 years in the field, with several of those years in a management role

The Candidate responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient daily activities of a berth and the vessels that use it.

Job areas

The role covers a broad range of responsibilities and requires knowledge in several interconnected areas:

Vessel operations and logistics: This includes coordinating vessel arrivals, berthing, and departures. The manager oversees the efficient handling of cargo and the vessel turnaround process.

Safety, security, and compliance: A key priority is ensuring strict adherence to all local, national, and international maritime regulations. This involves managing safety protocols, security procedures (including the ISPS code), and emergency response plans.

Stakeholder communication: The Candidate acts as the primary point of contact for external partners. This includes liaising with port authorities, customs, shipping agents, terminal operators, and vessel masters.

Team and resource management: Candidates  are responsible for managing, supervising, and training operational staff. This includes allocating resources, overseeing contractors, and ensuring a high standard of performance.

Financial oversight: Applicants  are often involved in managing budgets, tracking costs, and compiling revenue reports for the port’s operations.

Process optimization: Applicants analyze operational data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement. Their goal is to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and streamline workflows.
