  • Demonstrated success in fund allocation and resource mobilization.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences through various channels.
  • Ability to engage and inspire youth members and stakeholders.
  • Project management skills, including budgeting and monitoring, managing multiple projects and setting priorities.

Responsibilities & Context

Project Overview:

The “Eco-Leaders: Youth Empowerment Initiative on Environment, Climate and Renewable Energy for Bangladesh” is a transformative program aimed at empowering young individuals aged 18 to 35 to become effective advocates and leaders in environmental conservation, climate action, and renewable energy adoption. This initiative, running from August 2024 to June 2027, seeks to address pressing environmental challenges and build climate resilience in Bangladesh through comprehensive training, youth-led projects, and networking with key stakeholders.

Position Overview:

The Youth Engagement and Advocacy Officer will play a crucial role in mobilising and empowering young people to actively participate in environmental and climate advocacy. This position involves developing and implementing youth engagement strategies, organizing training and advocacy campaigns, and fostering partnerships with key stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a passion for youth empowerment, environmental issues, and strong communication skills.

Reporting Structure: The incumbent will report to the Project Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities:

Youth Engagement:

  • Develop and implement strategies to recruit and select a diverse group of young people to participate in the Eco-Leaders program.
  • Engage and mobilize young individuals and organizations in environmental and climate action.
  • Organize and facilitate workshops, seminars and training sessions to build the capacity of youth participants.
  • Mentor and support youth participants in developing and implementing their project ideas, focusing on community impact and policy advocacy.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive environment for youth participants, ensuring their active involvement in program activities.

    Advocacy and Campaigns:

  • Design and lead advocacy campaigns to raise awareness and drive action on environmental and climate issues.
  • Collaborate with youth participants to develop and implement youth-led advocacy projects.
  • Organize and manage youth-led advocacy campaigns to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote policy change.
  • Liaise with media and communication channels to promote advocacy campaigns and amplify the voices of young change makers.

    Partnership Building:

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with environmental organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders to support advocacy efforts.
  • Coordinate with project partners, including the Institute of Energy at the University of Dhaka, British High Commission, and Climate Parliament Bangladesh.

    Communication and Outreach:

  • Coordinate communication and outreach efforts to promote the Eco-Leaders initiative.
  • Develop content for social media, newsletters, press release and other platforms to engage with the broader community.
  • Represent the project at events, conferences, and meetings.

    M&E and Documentation:

  • Track and evaluate the impact of youth engagement and advocacy activities.
  • Collect and analyse feedback from participants to inform the continuous improvement of engagement strategies.
  • Prepare and disseminate reports on advocacy outcomes and lessons learned.
  • Assist Project Coordinator in preparing regular reports like donor reports, monthly reports, interim reports, Final reports and other reporting issues.

    Resource Management:

  • Maintain an online resource hub for participants, providing access to the latest research and best practices in environmental conservation and renewable energy.
  • Disseminate and manage youth-led project funding according to the project priorities.
  • Any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
